Osaka Hotel -- Toyoko Inn or Hearton?

How have your experiences been with either hotel? Assuming all things equal (price and location), which provided you an overall more pleasant stay and experience?

I actually stay at the Hearton in Umeda quite a bit. It's a great hotel for short stays, but not exactly luxury. Personally, I like that it's so close to Osaka station.

I am given to understand that there is Internet access in the rooms. Do you actually have to bring your laptop there or do they have a desktop from which you can access the internet?

They have wireless access, but that's it. Bring your computer.

Have you seen their website? The Hearton Hotel Nishi-Umeda

I love the name. It sounds so sleazy, but it's so nice.

I'm not sure how easy/complicated it will be for me to connect my laptop (Fujitsu but not configured for the general Japanese useage) to the Japanese internet network and I don't really want to lug my 4kg laptop there only to have it as a paperweight.

Have you tried the Shinsaibashi branch? Any reviews on that?

I just was at the Shinsaibashi branch for the first time last week. A friend of mine insisted I show him the Osaka nightlife, so I decided to give it a try. It's a great location if you're into clubs and that kind of thing. Other than that, it's nothing special. Hey, at least the check out time is noon! (Plenty of time to get rest after an all-nighter.)

Thanks very much! I shall look forward to my stay then! My flight is at about 1600hrs so checking out around noon-time will give me adequate time to wake-up, loll around and then take the slow train into the airport.

I take my laptop with me to Europe, and if the Internet connection hardware is ever at all different from what I'm used to in America, the hotel will always provide the proper cable for connecting with a standard laptop port. I have no first-hand knowledge of the situation in Japan, but I can't imagine that hotels in a completely up-to-date country like Japan, that has a large number of American and European business visitors, would not make it easy for its foreign visitors to use their laptops to connect to the Internet.
