You will be fine, you are korean with almost the same grammar
I just recently graduated from a 4 year college. Before i head out to law school, i wanted an alternative cultural experience, and i have some elementary knowledge of the japanese language (just 1 year's worth). I wanted to enroll in a university or institute for an academic year.
Does anyone in the forum have any recommendations? I realize that i would need to get student visas, but specifically are there any institutions that anyone would recommend to me? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I'm in a strange situation in terms of my visa in that i'm a korean citizen, but i'll most likely be a us citizen by march or april. Does anyone have any idea how that would affect the application process to any institute or university in japan?

By the way, if you couldn't understand what I wrote above, I suggest you take Japanese at your home American university, since Japanese universities require you to pass JLPT tests. But if you are Korean, I know you will definately master 4 years of Japanese in 1 year, since 90% of Korean grammar is the same as Japanese. Japanese people know and believe Koreans can master Japanese, unlike myself, who is Caucasian. Somehow, the Japanese believe that we whites can never learn Japanese, especially Kanji.
The only people that learn faster than Koreans with regards to learning Japanese are the Nikkeijin. I have known many who knew next to nothing, and in less than 1 year surpass me after repatriating to Japan, and returning back to Canada. They always pat me on the back, and say, that they were pressured to learn unlike myself, who they would be totally okay if I never learn their language. I met other white guys who went to Japan who returned and smiled and told me that now they are better than me in Japanese, but no Japanese ever thought that I am worth contesting and felt no sense of accomplishment to serve me. I am by the way, the top student in my class amongst non-Asians.
I always wondered why do they put Koreans and Chinese in the same class as us when they have an enormous advantage in mastering Kanji. Even now, while I finally learn to recognize most words when selecting the kanji through multiple choice, I have never been able to actually write those things let alone at lightening speed like the Chinese and the Nikkeijin.
Even the Nikkeijin who actually knew zero Kanji have it in their bones to somehow write those things. I wonder if their mothers at home drill them hard with lots of pressure. I knew first generation Japanese guy who got slapped by his father when he scored less than I did. He was five when coming here. Eventually, he did surpass me after going to Japanese Repatriate School for 1 year. Even he didn't have the need to get back at me, and they only feel a sense of accomplishment when they can read the Yomimuri shinbun with ease.
Also, their crazy requirements of needing to fit right back in, and when they can go through life without others noticing they are re-patriates, then they feel that they have mastered Japanese. By the way, to many, language is only a component of what they must master. They must master manner and code of conduct also. (The Hakujin does not.)
