but I think China will not do very well at the team sports except volleyball and women's soccer

they have just announced that China's female volleyball superstar,
1.96 meter tall Zhao Ruirui will miss the rest of the Athens Olympics due to
a new fracture in her right leg old injury,it happened during the China-US opening preliminiary pool match, she was sent to the hospital

oh no....

I don窶冲 have any problem with anybody rooting from anywhere.
I was watching Canadian-Chinese television yesterday. They were still talking about that football match. Those Chinese commentators said, 窶 The Chinese football fans got angry and threw bottles at a Japanese tour bus because the Japanese passengers were waving their national flags. Therefore Japanese people incited the attack.窶

Hmmm窶ヲ if Japanese waving flags in China = provoking, then what about Chinese posting pictures and bragging about how many medals China has won (and hasn窶冲 won yet) in a Japan Forum?

The above question is not for Ah-Q to answer. No, I don't look down on Ah-Qs. Just don't want to associate with insecure people. If all the Ah-Qs out there want to attack me, go ahead. I can always go to another forum, one without so many Ah-Qs.

Oh, almost forgot. Many Ah-Qs don't know who is Ah-Q. For those Ah-Qs who don't want to spend any money on knowing themselves, they can always borrow a copy of this The True Story of Ah Q | Chinese Books | Literature | Modern Literature | ISBN 9787119026930 from a university library.

I am pretty sure they have this book at McGill University.

Just because some people are happy that their homeland is winning medals doesnt make them Nationalist Nazis you know ?

Anyways anybody know when is the gymnastics ? Love flexible women. 😊

Speaking of China, I saw some of the gymnastics competitions today and China and Japan were having a hell of a competition. One of China's top competitors failed miserably at the end of the pommel horse comp. though. I was amazed at how good these guys are and how well Japan was doing too!

Yeah, both teams were amazing! I felt so bad for that Chinese guy who fell off the pummel horse. The two American twins Paul and Morgan Hamm aren't too shabby either!

That sucks. Though, I was watching the U.S. vs China women's match yesterday, and after Zhou Ruirui left, the Chinese team was still looking very strong (the won ^_^). They still definitely have potential for gold!

Yao Ming may retire from international games

after the Chinese basketball team lost to Spain by 83 - 59

Yao Ming said
"I feel so disappointed. I lost all my hopes for this team. We changed our skin, but we are the same. Just like the world championships in Indianapolis two years ago,I didn't play well either. I am thinking about retiring from the national team. Not now, but soon I will. In Indianapolis I was the youngest player, now I am an elder, but still there is no hope for us."

when Yao was fouled out in the 4th quarter,
Yao,usually a very nice man, showed his anger on his face

he also critized his teammates and the Chinese basketball association
'I have lost all my hopes for this team,I feel that the national team hurts me like this everytime. I don't know why is that? it really hurts me, some of our players, I do not know whether they are nervous or are just not brave enough to take the responsibility.'

So far, Japan is doing much better than the US, with 4 gold and 1 silver (3rf position after China and Australia). The US have only got 1 gold. But let us not jump our bridges. That was mainly because Judo, where Japan excels, happened to come earlier than the rest.

As I said earlier I really wanted to watch that but the damn cable where I live didn't televise it. As for Japan excelling in judo that only holds true for the lighter weights. Once the bigger poeple start you'll start to see tons of Scandinavians. The Scandinavians are big chested and much more powerful than the heavyweight Japanese. The heavyweight Japanese tend to be quite slow and pudgy.

Does anyone know if Ryoko Tamura was competing in these olyipics and if she is was she the won who won?

This was one of the things i was going to comment on! They were doing great along with Romania!

Also -let me clear my throat- Puerto Rico Snatched a beautiful victory over US in Basketball!!!!!! woooooooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooo! That made me extremly happy! US didnt seem excited about the whole game with not that much energy. Though i do fee bad for Duncan and Odom. Odom being fouled out of the game and Duncan getting fouled nonstop in the whole. 😌

I hope Yao Ming's words would slap the Chinese basketball players and the CBA in the face and wake them up

Yao Ming almost cried during the press conference when he said he is disappointed and lost all hopes for the team.

and today he just said

'after we lost the game, of course I felt very bad, this is the first game and I got fouled out, it is a a little sad. but whats more sad in my heart is that the attitude of my teammates during the games, I don't know what are they thinking during the games, they lost their spirit so early, you have to know that some older athletes had been fighting for our basketball business but they did not have chance to participate in the Olympic Games, I am very sorry to them for our perfomance today! thats the reason why I said such emotional stuff.

I have never thought of quitting the national team, I love my motherland, and I also love my team. I hope people would understand the minds of young people...'

the Puerto Ricans played great, especially Carlos Arroyo

Dream Team 6??
this team is the Daydream Team, they don't deserve to have the name Dream Team, really,Dreams Teams don't play like this, and this lineup isn't 'Dream' at all, this is not the A class lineup from the NBA, guys like T-Mac,Kobe,Shaq,Kidd are not in the team,
Iverson is an idiot on court and off court,he should not be the captain
I feel sorry for Tim Duncan to have such teammates

the Americans have to realize that the level of international basketball have improved alot, they should not be so arrogant anymore, I hope the political crap will not stop the best players from participating Beijing 2008, the US basketball player should show their patriotism by joining the national team, not just staying home because of those terrorists, especially there are some wars going on in the world, the basketball players should come here and bring the messages of love, peace and friendship, to the world.
it is a pride to join the national team and participate in the Olympics,
many people have dreamed about this for their whole life,so if the national team invites you,you should just put on the national team uniform, and play hard,to respect your opponents, your teammates, your coaches, yourself and your country.
I want to see the best basketball players, not these lazy, greedy guys.

woah. Did anyone else see the men's 3m synchronized diving finals?

That was absolutely shocking.

The two favorites Russia and China didn't even get medal standings! They both flopped (literally) on the 5th round dive. Who could've guessed?

Greece won gold! They were so excited. First diving medal for Greece. ever!

I really don't think that we should be using the pros anyway! I think that once we did that, it took a lot of excitement out of the game. I will say that the first dream team played with emotion...that is what made them great! If they went on the court they wanted to win...these guys didn't want to be there!

The Americans should go back to using only college kids. They play with more energy and excitement. And getting a gold medal will mean more to most of them than it would to some millionaire pro just playing to help build/repair an image!

Yes,she won the gold which I posted 8/14th.
She married a baseball player and she now plays under the name,Ryoko Tani.

I think the US basketball team should be using pros,
because basketball players from all around the world, they have always dreamed of playing against the American players from the NBA,
I hope in Beijing 2008 the US will really send THE BEST basketball players from the NBA to face the challengers from all over the world

The NBA is full of overpaid babies. They are afraid of getting injured in the Olympics and losing their high $ contracts.

The reason I feel that we should use college players is that they are used to using the full court press, and playing hard. The NBA is a half court game. If you watched Puerto Rico, they played like a college team. Pressing, attacking the ball handler, etc...just like a Div 1 college team. Many of the sports radio talk shows have mentioned it lately too. It really makes more sense. Take your team right after the final four is completed and let them practice together until the games begin. College players understand the "real" game! It is a team sport, you need to pass the ball sometimes, and sometimes it is your job to take the shot...Pros just want to be the center of attention (many of them). Some talk shows even mentioned just taking the Championship team (college) and allowing them to represent the USA. I don't agree with this, but I do believe that college players would improve the competition.

Why should we worry that the rest of the world wants to play the pros? If that is so...let them join the NBA! :-)

:?
Let them join the nba???? Puerto Rico played like a College Div 1 team!??!?!
I'm not even going to comment...

there you go thinking negative. Let the person that wants to play against the NBA work on his game and try out for a team! Is that so hard to fathom? As for Puerto Rico playing like a college team, I meant that they played with energy and desire. They pressed the USA hard. Played full court basketball...the NBA rarely does that anymore. It was not meant as a knock on Puerto Rico, just the opposite. I was commenting on how lackidazical the USA played....until they realised that they were going to lose!

:? hmmmmmmmmmmm...

Did anyone see the [womens, i must have missed mens]weightlifiting! China got a gold if i'm correct, with Taiwan coming right behind them. Though on the last set for Taiwan the woman was doing powerclean and the bar almost landed on her! I was like "square your body SQUARE YOUR BODY!!" I forget who came in with the bronze.....but guess what came on next! Womens' volleyball 👍 👍 👍 😊

Hooray! UK now has a bronze to go with its silver!! :D *sigh* We're so bad at sport...It gets quite funny after a while. And our number 1 tennis player went out in the first round. :D

I agree with you there, many NBA players are overpaid, they get millions of dollars just for playing the sport that they are good at?
also, guys who averages like 4 points and 2 rebounds per game could also get like 0.5 million dollars
thats the thing I don't like about professional sports, many of them are playing for the money,
the NBA stars have big egos, for example Allen Iverson,Kobe and Shaq, they just want to be center of attention and wants to be the boss of their teams
they don't understand the concept of 'team', there is no I in the TEAM,
you don't always have to put up big numbers to win games,
do those little things, passing the ball, playing hard defense, getting down on the floor, play as a team, you've gotta trust your teammates

NBA is planning to set up some teams in China and Europe in the next few years, it is going globalized! it is a great thing for basketball lovers all around the world!

Judo is also where Germany excels! 👍
Yvonne Bテカnisch won Gold in the category "up to 57kg", beating the much acclaimed Kye Sun Hui from North Korea 👍

Also, in the Judo category "up to 48kg", Julia Matijass managed to get a still very good bronze medal.

You can see the total actual medal stats >here<
On this list, you can also find Canada which is quite at the bottom with only one bronze medal (yet).

Yao Ming on fire!!

xinsrc_22080118082960131855-1.webp

China 69 - New Zealand 62

Yao Ming 39 points and 13 rebounds

Yao Ming, standing at 7 foot 5, the tallest man in Olympic history,
determined to resurrect the Chinese basketball team after the disappointing loss against Spain, took the matter by his own hands, hitting 15 of 20 from the field, 9 of 13 from the free throw line, scoring 39 points and grabbing 13 rebounds

throughout the game,New Zealand put 2,3 defenders on him, sometimes even 4, but Yao was an unstoppable force, kept scoring points,he was able to score even when fouled by defenders, his teammates did poorly though

on Thursday, the Chinese basketball team will challenge the serious championship contender, Argentina

Well (for now) the US has taken over the total medal count, but still trail China for the most Gold medals. I was surprised the the US won a gold and bronze in fencing! :? I didn't expect that...What I did see today was some outstanding swimming competitions.

dramatic finish in women's basketball

New Zealand 79
China 77

China's Zhan Fang hits a 3 pointer to tie the game at 77 with 6.4 seconds to go, but New Zealand's Megan Compain hits a jump shot with 0.4 seconds remaning ,New Zealand defeated China by the score 79 to 77

Chinese women will have to go to 9th-12th deciders if they lose to the mighty defending champion United States in Sunday's final round preliminaries.
