Hi, I'm Jay! Actually, I thought I was joining a japanese cuisine forum and got the whole culture country and kittencaboodle! Not bad! 👍
I wanted to hide my personal stuff, like gender, but didn't have the option to I guess, I should probably double check just in case. I like anonymity, but I suppose I won't know anybody in this forum in person so I should be okay.
My biggest question is for the food forum, I should ask there, mostly relating to sushi.
My history; I am an Italian-Canadian first generation (meaning my dad wasn't born in Canada so I can claim Italian citizenship, which is cool.) No Japanese relatives, save maybe one by marriage, I haven't seen any of the cousins in a long time so I don't know who could be married to who!
I have a been raised in Italian culture, but I secretly dreamt and wished all my life that I was Japanese. If I wasn't disabled I'd move to Japan and live there forever! I want to learn Japanese language, how to cook, all about rituals and customs. So far in my journey, I've discovered two things which are primary in my Japanophile (bad word to use for me?) experience; Anime/Manga and Bento. Bento is something that I'm really taking to heart lately, and I even plan on doing the traditional box and traditional foods, plus Canadian and Italian foods too, sort of a cultural blend.
My anime collection is pitiful, I spend all my money on Harry Potter stuff and video games. 😊 I adore Nintendo as a general rule not because its Japanese but because it is just plain awesome. I plan on getting a Wii, and desperately want to own the Wii version of The Sims (Boku No Sims).
I also write fantasy and science fiction, fanfiction (Mostly Harry Potter), and poetry. I like puppetry and dolls.
Glad to be a part of this community! :D
