New to the forum and I have a rather odd question...

While I was traveling in Japan this summer, a group of people I was with bought these interesting, distinctly Japanese-style, animal outfits (kinda like a costume, but not as intricate). Since I have returned home, I have been looking for a place online where I might be able to purchase them, but have found none. Does anyone have any idea what I am even talking about, what they might be called, or where I might find them?

I know this is a shot in the dark, but I figured I would ask since everyone here seems relatively knowledgable about Japan and some of it's modern-day "trends".

If it will help, I can post a picture, but I would rather not go through the hassle unless I have to.

Looks like the sort of thing they sell on the bottom floor of Tokyu Hands. I've never seen 'em for sale online.

I'm seen a few MAMBA girls wear them, but I think it's a ONLY in Japan thing, can't you ask a friend in Japan to buy one for you?

I have seen them before, and I know you can buy them in Tokyo, anyway, I have tried and tried to search for them in a Japanese online store for you - with no luck.
So I guess the only thing you can do is ask a friend in Japan to buy one for you, or find if there are any importers in the United States.

My thoughts exactly! Oh well. Whatever floats your boat.

By the way, my in-laws sent a couple of outfits like those to my sons, but they were only 1 and 2 at the time, so I thought it was cute.

I think there are ones outside Japan, I remember seeing my friends in Australia wearing that kind of animal-clothe, they rented it from a special store though.

They remind me of halloween costumes for kids.

Heh.

Well, so I don't sound completely weird for wanting one of these, I wanted one for the halloween party that we have here at my university. Everyone usually gets these crazy costumes and I wanted one that was unique, and I figured this would be a good way to go.

And, no, unfortunately I can't read Japanese (although I can speak a little of it). I guess I will just have to poke around until I figure out how to order one.

Yeah, I can imagine me in a suit like these for halloween (although it is not scary to come as a racoon is it?)
OR even better: fancy dress party! Last couple of times I had a costume on was of a witch, cat woman and Cleopatra...and those costumes I rented...
