As a child of mixed race growing up in a black neighborhood in Denver Colorado it was quite difficult. My parents were father Chinese and mother Japanese (I am ¾ Chinese and ¼ Japanese). My Grandfather started the first English language newspaper in CO the Colorado Times. My boy scout leader was Min Yasui. They saw that I took and learned martial arts (and Asian discipline) from age 8, and because of economic reasons, ate little red meat, mostly fish and chicken, these things I have carried with me to the present, except the martial arts, which I stopped practicing in 1991. I live in a small village called Magdalena only 930 people, I work for the Forest Service and love my job, I am also retired military. I fell in love with the southwest when I was stationed at Ft. Bliss TX 1979-1983.
