Volcanic eruption creates new island south of Japan ? Japan Today: Japan News and Discussion

Far south of Japan, a volcanic eruption has created a new island. Whenever it stays up or eventually erodes away remains to be seen, but I really love how mother nature continue to do things that otherwise wouldn't happen.

Well, more territory is always a good thing. I'm sure if that island sticks around, it will be put to good use. Real estate is one thing that holds value very well.

This is definitely preferable to having to buy (or fight over) land claimed by other countries, as they might have to do otherwise. If only they could figure out how to control the eruptions, to make the islands where they want, and the size they want...

Am I looking at this in the right way, or did I miss the point?

I'm very much looking forward to seeing what happens to this island and if this remains. Speaking of which, I wonder if there's any technology out there that could control growth of islands. It seems like something out of science fiction.

The new island is Chinese by culture, It belongs to China because the island was hiding until China gets stronger. *joke*

It's great to have new lands especially when people need them.

If I remember correctly, something similar has happened after the strong quake in Pakistan about two months ago. I wonder if that island is still there.
