I bought this Hinomaru in a box with a couple of extras. I was wondering what the writing on the box was. It came from a WW2 Vets estate. Thanks

At the top, the box says (as you can imagine) "Box for National Flag" 国旗函
It's got a poem from Emperor Meiji under that, and then under the picture of the flag it lists the national holidays on which the flag is to be flown. The paper pasted to the inside of the box lists care and handling, as well as history of the national flag.
The bit on the back indicates it is a gift for city employees of Okaya city in Nagano prefecture.
The red silk charm is from Jūgosha Shrine, of which there are a few, but this one is probably the one near Okaya city.

Thanks. So was this a personal flag or was it for some group?

I think it was a gift that was given to certain city employees.

A really nice find for a collector.

If you buy it, you have to make sure to display the flags on those dates. Otherwise calamity is certain.

Have you seen the news in the last year? when they are telling us men are women and women are men, men can have babies, or any of the other insanity going on the end is neigh.

The "WOKE" generation and thoughts kind of baffle me. Years ago we put people with such ideas in mental institutions. Now , we are told if we don't support and go along with their demands , we are in the wrong. When I hear stories about people getting fired for using the wrong pronouns , it's hard to believe. Since I rarely leave my house , all my info comes from Facebook , so I take it with a grain of salt.
