Hey guys,

I've been studying the Genki I book to get prepared for a course I'm taking and am in need of some help.
I was wondering what the difference is between these two examples:

Lesson 6 Dialogue: じゃあ、今日はいえにかえって、べんきょうします。
Example in lesson 7: デパートにかばんをかいにいきました。

Is the difference just that in the first one you are going somewhere and doing something and in the second going somewhere to do something? They seem like they're saying very similar things.

Thanks for the help!

I think this might be a better way to articulate my question (sorry for the double post)

Is the first example actually used as way to describe the purpose of movement since that's basically what the second example is designed to do?

The first is more like consecutive actions, whereas the second shows the purpose of movement.
