飛鳥時代 【あすかじだい】Asuka period (550-710 CE)
飛鳥 is also the name of a place in Nara Pref.seasurfer said:I know this, other than this meaning, is there any other meaning?
「ボクより」の部分の意味を確認したいのですね。Elizabeth said:このチンパンジーには描くのは並外れた才能があるようと思いますか?
ボクより絵の才能がありそうですが、池袋までその絵を見に
行きたい程ではないね。
確かめるために、この場合[より]の意味で使われているか[From (my perspective?)/Coming from me?]という英訳は自然な言い方ですか その文の前に「ンパンジー 」の主語がつくので「Than me」の方がちょっと不自然だと思います。 「Than]の意味はないそうです。
日本語ではその前後の文やちょっとしたニュアンスによって変わってくる場合が多いですね。
ああ、そうなんですか?当たってそこなかった。wakaP said:「ボクより」の部分の意味を確認したいのですね。
(You want to confirm the meaning of "ボクより" part, don't you?)
[このチンパンジーは]ボクより才能がありそうですが,
なので,Although the chimpanzee seems to draw pictures better than me が適切です。

How is the timing not associated with the search in that phrase?Elizabeth said:またアルバイトを探したいけど時間的に探すのは難しいと思います。
This isn't exactly a question, evidently she meant by 時間的に探すのは that finding a part-time job to fit her schedule is difficult. But judging by the surface syntax alone, shouldn't "timing" be associated with and referring to the search :?
Timing your search in the traditional sense of getting an application in before the deadline, beating out your competition, etc. but the writer explained it as referred to her own life. :? More like "Because of my timing (schedule needs), the search is difficult."PaulTB said:How is the timing not associated with the search in that phrase?
時間的に探す
I sure don't think it's goes with 思います
Aha. I think it's your English I didn't follow. If you're sure of your 'evident' interpretation then it can only be that 時間的に探す can be interpreted as either 'Finding in timely fashion' or 'Finding, considering the time aspect'.Elizabeth said:Timing your search in the traditional sense of getting an application in before the deadline, beating out your competition, etc. but the writer explained it as referred to her own life. :? The latter is close enough. Thanks. Insofar it isn't the preferred interpretation, my inclination was to blame it on her offhand or sloppy Japanese.PaulTB said:Aha. Seeing as I got a grand total of two results* for '時間的に探す' I'm not sure you can be too firm about that.Elizabeth said:The latter is close enough. Thanks. Insofar it isn't the preferred interpretation, my inclination was to blame it on her offhand or sloppy Japanese.

thank you very much.
EDIT: btw, why is it 暴走族が現れ始めた instead of 暴走族を現れ始めた or 暴走族が現れ始まった :?
Another example of this form in the second grammatical role would be in a sentence such as かれは, リンゴの実が木から落ちるのを見て, 地球には引力があるのだということを発見したそうです。nhk9 said:It`s exactly the same as ``to iu koto da``, except that `to no koto`` is primarily used in writing only. And to iu koto da can have several meanings, usually the 2 most useful functions include 1) stating a hearsay, similar in function to verb-renyou kei souda... and 2) stating a fact in an objective manner.... The second function is used commonly in speeches by the news and scholars etc.
