I think for chinese name, they mainly use it for phonetic purpose, unless the particular word used is insulting or amusing... in mandarin, it's pronounced as yi-li-sha-bai. I'm not too sure exact usage of each word except for the 麗 and 白 which means pretty and white respectively...

You just have to ignore the meaning and think of it as "wei si ri" in Chinese (or something like that) and ウェスリー in Japanese (which by the way also uses the 斯 (ス) kanji or not?)

Nope, chinese pronounciation does not have za.... they have either sha or cha, or ca (pronounced like cha with less h sound).

This is strictly Japanese way of pronunciation. In chinese, there is "li" pronunciation which Japanese does not. So, it's wei(4)-shze(1)-li(3)

OK--thanks! That's good to know. I guess the sound that gets romanized a lot into "za" or "z(h)i" is more like "ts" or "jy" (in Japanese anyway )

If a name has actually a meaning it would have 2 pronunciation. So which is best to choose from ? .. i.e. my name is KAMAL , it means PERFECTION in Arabic so which is more appropriate *.. personnally i like the meaning .. *

Many Chinese people here take "on-yomi" translitaration for their Chinese names, so in your case, Japanese people may call you "Ka" san in Japan.

So in traditional characters it is 夏義強 right? Well the onyomi of 夏 is either "ka" or "ge", 義 is "gi", and 強 is either "kyou", "gou". But the last one can also be "tuyosi", which is an exising Japanese name I believe.
I think Natsugi Tuyoshi sounds the best, but Natsugi may be mistaken as 夏着 - clothes you wear in summer. Still, Tuyoshi is a kick-*** name!
But, if your last name is 夏 and first name is 義強, iId pronounce it as Natsu Gigou..
