they just have to move to a different country from time to time.

On the 23rd of July my family will begin a slow and baggage-burdened trek back over the Pacific and to the US. Tis graduate school for this forumite, and sadly decreased time to spend on JREF. But if you ever need an inside guy at the UW, drop me a PM.

But this is not good-bye - I shall still check in from time to time to make sure you people aren't screwing things up :D and post random items from time to time. Just if I don't respond promptly, it is nothing personal 🙂

With this, I haul down the Hinamaru, and only when you see Old Glory again below my avatar will you know we have made it home. Hopefully with all our suitcases, and with a few thousand miles more in our frequent flier accounts.

And so, with that, I bid you all a fond, じゃね。 🙂

じゃね、Mandylion。 Good luck with your travels, and stay safe!

I 'm still abit of a newbie to the forums, so i havent got too know you too well yet, but you seem a really good and helpful person ! Good look with travelling and be safe.
Anyways cya's around

Ciao

Happy Travels, I didn't know you well.. but I'll always have the fond memory of you forcing me to downsize my signature :D but yeh.. See ya later 🙂

Knowing that moving only from one city to another can be a pain in the ***, I wish you all the nerves you need for this!

Fare thee well

Whether thou fare! Good luck big M, hope to see you posting again soon.

Oh Nooooo !!!!!!

Don't become another Iron Chef and become to busy to get on the Forum. We can't afford to lose too many ol timers! Have a safe trip ! Hope the movers are better then baggage people, and nothing gets lost or damaged in the move. It probably will be culture shock for you to get used to being back in the states. Take care!

Frank

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

I'm leaving for a two-week trip to Japan tomorrow morning, so we may pass each other in the air, Mandylion. I'll be sure to wave at each plane I see, just in case. ;-)

Have a safe trip and I hope that you won't be a stranger to the forum once you get settled in!

Regards,

Dan

Thanks, Jon!

I'll be flying into Kansai Int'l Airport and then going to Okayama to stay with a friend and his family. I bought a 14-day Japan Rail Pass, so I hope to do a lot of relatively local traveling (Hiroshima, Miyajima, Himeji, etc.).

Well, I'm going to jump in the shower and then head to the airport. I'll probably check the forum from my buddy's computer at some point this weekend.

Talk to you all soon!

Dan

Well, happy and safe travels to you too, Dan! 🙂 🎈 I'm sure that you will enjoy your stay in Japan, but I thought that you had left already.

Since moderators never die, they need to file their tax returns.

However, you can get your moving expenses deducted from the adjusted gross income if they meet two tests.

(1) The distance test requires that the commuting distance from the old residence to the new job be 50 miles farther than the commuting distance was to the old job.

(2) The time test requires the taxpayer to be employed at the new location for 39 weeks in the 12-month period following the move. Self-employed individuals must work in the new location for 78 weeks during the succeeding two-year period. The time requirements are waived for death, disability, discharge, or transfer that is not the fault of the employee.

Only certain types of expenses associated with moving are deductible. The taxpayer is permitted to deduct only (1) the cost of moving household goods and personal effects to the new residence, and (2) the transportation and lodging costs of moving the taxpayer and family from the old residence to the new residence. No deduction is permitted for meals incurred in transporting the taxpayer and family from the old residence to the new residence. If the taxpayer drives from the old residence to the new residence, mileage is allowed at 13 cents per mile.

There is no limit on the amount of moving expenses that are deductible if the expenses incurred are not lavish or unreasonable. For instance, renting a Lexus to look for new residence and dropping off at Disneyland for a break during the move are not part of the reasonable cost of a move and are disallowed.

So, don窶冲 forget to keep all your receipts just in case the IRS wants to see them窶ヲ

Bon Voyage!
