i do not have much experience dealing with an international company, could you please give me information on what i can do to mitigate damages?

Depends on how much you are going to buy. For example, one wants to get into the imports of guitars from China. Yes, one can order a few, but usually the guitar maker wants orders in lots of 100. Easier to ship also. Export companies in China vary, but I would recommend using an escrow company to handle any money exchange for products. If you are in Canada, and buy here in Japan and are a dealer there, their international sales department would answer all your questions. Good luck.
