MEXT Scholarship (Research/Graduate students) 2018

Had my interview and exams today. I feel really confident about my interview and English exam, not so much for the Japanese exam but nonetheless, I am very sure of myself. Once again, good luck to those with upcoming interviews

Hello everyone. I'm applying for this scholarship, and currently waiting for interview. May I know, if I have contacted professors in my field according to what I have proposed in the written research proposal submitted to the embassy, but the professors are unable to accept me due to some reasons, so I need to alter the proposal and submit again during the interview (the main theme will still be there, but the techniques and research might be different)? Will this affects as the submitted proposal might be with the panels? Thank you for reading and answering.

From what I understand your research proposal isn't binding and it is assumed it will change and develop as you go.

I see I see. Thanks for the replies. My proposal was written in quite a specific way, so I'm kind of worried if it is fine for me to alter it at this point, although I do understand research proposal will continue to develop as we go.

Another question, for the placement preference form, the selected 3 universities are fixed?

Hello my friend. The universities incorporated in the placement form might differ if those universities listed down in the form were not able to accept you due to certain reasons. But I'm pretty sure MEXT will do its best to meet the desired universities listed as much as possible. :)

Thank you for your kind replies :) I can't help but start to think of many possibilities, trying my best to ensure things go well. Hopefully things will go well, hahaha. By the way, I saw that you are going to Japan, congratulations and wishing you all the best! ;)

Something similar happened to me. My first option told me that I have to modify my research proposal in order to get accepted into the university (In case I pass the exams and interview). But I already submitted my documents, and I do not know what to do. Anyone has any experience related? What suggestions would you give me?
I am soooo worried about it :/

Hello my friends. Let me share my experience here. When I was searching for my professors before, I found a professor that matched my field of study. We shared articles to each other until he realized that there's a big gap between our research fields. What I really liked and appreciated from my professor is that, he's so open for other topics that will relate to his field which resolved the gap. In the end, we also agreed that even I have my own research proposal, still, if he feels to add or change my research proposal in the future, it is also possible. Hope this helps. :)
 
Had the exams, English was a breeze. Sadly I had real trouble with the Japanese ones. I'm visually impaired and I couldn't read the form. I went home pretty broken up. They said I still have a chance but I highly doubt. Have the interview on Monday.

I changed my preferences three times after the interview process! The kind people at the embassy in Australia were happy to keep updating my files for me. Good luck!

Basically for my interview, I was asked to introduce myself, and after that the session continues with my proposed research (more on Q & A). Maybe you can browse through the previous threads for more information :)

From last year, things they asked me:
1) Why did you pick those universities?
2) What do you like about Japan?
3) Are you able to live away from home?
4) Explain why Japan can help with your research

Having clear answers to these questions may help you. I'm not sure if the interview process differs a bit depending on the country, though.
 
Yes, I think it may differ for different countries. From what I read before, the questions can be either about your proposal (why you choose this research, this technique, this method etc.), or questions more on Japan (why Japan, will you be able to adapt, contribution etc.).
