Yes it is 60 min exam, but not 20 texts, it has grammar, kanji and very long texts.

I, for one, am very glad to hear this. The main reason why I failed last year (exept for filling in the forms in English while I was an MA in Japanese...) was because I had prepared myself for a mixed exam (grammar, texts, kanji, etc.) and was very surprised to see 20 texts showing up when I opened the exam papers. I read and answered more than half of them, most of which were right, but I left the rest of the answers blank. That was my biggest mistake, sadly. (My English test was good though...)
Anyhow, I'm happy to hear I won't have to be going through the same exam like last year. I've been teaching Japanese for the past year, so my grammar and voc have really improved. Kanji is still not one of my fortes, but I'll manage.

Flidar: I doubt it will help to get two supervisors from one university...
After all if you are not placed at Tokyo university it will be for different reasons than who is supervising you: (Tokyo (university) will be 'overbooked' like every year, so if you're unlucky they might change you someplace else)
Furthermore, the professors might be surprised and offended if you in the end have to choose between one of them.
My current supervisor waited almost two weeks before replying to my e-mail.

Yes, I believe it doesn't happen often because the professors don't give their acceptance to everyone who mails them. I think the professors know the capacity of their faculties so when they accept someone, they suppose that the university would be able to take the student.

I see guys. But we are actually allowed to get three loas. My primary choice is decided in a great professor in Kyoto University, but I just thought it might be better to "book" some places in Tokyo University as a backup. I hope "overbook" would not happen this year... The two professors in Tokyo U that I'm trying to book are from different graduate schools, so I hope they wouldn't discover it eventually, or I might be in serious problem.
But it is so hard to write a different study plan for each professor based on what he is studying currently.

I just had the interview today. Don't think I did well. They asked almost nothing about my project, but a lot about why I'm fascinated by Japan and how and when this fascination started. I couldn't answer those questions... it's just like that!

Well, now I have to wait till next week. But I don't think I will be nominated.

Didnt got call from my embassy. My other friends got their. I missed the ship this time also. I dont know whether I'll be applying next year. Preparation takes a lot of effort but it is painful when it does not bear fruit. This was my third attempt (if I include my junior MEXT adventure also), have no hope that I will be fourth time lucky.

Big relief!! I received a phone call yesterday from the Embassy notifying me that I passed the written exams and must assist for the interview next Wednesday! I can't believe myself! I did it!!
I'm ecstatic but nervous at the same time! :? I was just wondering how to pass the interview! What are the commonly asked questions? How to deal with them? How to prepare oneself to the interview? How to show Your self confidence?

I've taken the written exam today, and I think it went well. The dokkai part was difficult though, too many kanji I've never seen before... I hope it's good enough...The English test was easy though
Next Wednesday is the interview. It seems that, unlike some other countries, we're automatically invited for the interview, since everyone received a schedule after the exam showing the hour they're expected to attend the interview... But...There are a lot more candidates than last year, more than double (about 16 or something)! So I hope I'm one of the better ones...

Question on Research and study plan

Hey, guys, i have question regarding the study plan in japan
i target to enter regular master course that requires exam in university in japan
however,i need to apply through research student, so is it means that after 6 month trainning course i will undergone research period and then prepare for the exam, then stop the research work and go regular master course?
How about the monthly timeline if i want to do so? how long is the minimum period to conduct the research?

pls help!! my interview is just next week thursday!!

Sorry to hear that phaeno. But don't lose hope. You still can be the one as you never know how the interviewers would think.
Nevertheless, I have to say that why you want to go to Japan is one of the most important aspects that you should prepare, as it is repeatedly mentioned in this post for several times. But anyway, you still have chance and let's pray for the luck!

I'll study at Todai (University of Tokyo).

But I still have to contact a professor (or the professor has yet to contact me). The process is quite different in the graduate program I chose.

Does anyone know if all universities are capable of accepting MEXT students? One professor is at Osaka University and another is at Azabu University. The guy at Azabu is a much better fit for me, but it's kind of a small (I think private) college, so I don't even know if it's an option, or how to find this stuff out.

In my case, I first applied to a graduate program in my chosen university. They accepted me and required me to submit to them all required documents for MEXT Scholarship. They submitted it to MEXT on my behalf (university recommendation).

Now, universities may have different selection process from each other. In my case, the procedure requires to me choose three professors who I would like to supervise me. No communication or agreement yet with these professors even up to now. In other universities, it may be different.

I suggest you choose the best university out there.

Hi everyone, this is the second time I apply for MEXT scholarship, I am so happy I get to sit the exams this friday, and also happy I found this forum eventhough I summited my application almost a month before I fpund you guys. Anyway Minna san ganbare ne!!!

the loas are required to submit to MEXT by the end of August. That would leave you little time for getting loas, I'm afraid.
