MEXT Scholarship for Postgraduate 2010: General Discussions.

Hey scjp19,
You already have a dorm assignment in Osaka University? How come? We haven't heard anything yet from the school lol.

I think my professor asked the admission office. They haven't called me or sent me a letter yet.

Regarding the public bath, i know there are people who are not used to it. Some public baths have a separate shower room but I guess you just have to get used to their culture since you're going to live in their country.

well

well I still have no final answer from the embassy but... "MY PROFESSOR IN TOKIO UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE JUST SENT ME AN E-MAIL STATING THAT I AM ALREADY IN AND THAT HED BE EXPECTING Y ARRIVAL TO JAPAN!!!!!", well the least of my problems now is taking a bath in publin bathrooms. anyway hey anyone going to Tokio?????? want to make some friends before I arrive there.

Um.. honestly... whats wrong with being naked?? like that guy from smap said. Public bathroom is something I can definately get used to if necessary...I mean.. its not my preference but if you think about it, you weren't born with clothes in the first place...

Dormitory announcement from Kyoto University

hi all,

I'm heading to kyodai. My professor have applied dormitory application in my place. Due to limited capacity of the dorm, not all applicants are to be granted to live in the dorm.

Up to now, I still haven't received notification regarding my application status. Does anyone heading to Kyodai in this forum got any news?:?

please share. thanks

Hey guys!!

Since we are kind of near for the final placement and Go notifications I had a coupple of questions:

1.- My Jap Language skills are very low but according to your experience and/or expectations do you think that a person with no Jap Language skills could survive (I know it depends on the city you are going to and the program you are entering; but I mean about daily life)

and..

2.- How many of oyu guys are in the same situation regarding the language? (None or very few knowledge of Japanese?)

Thanks

and good luck to everyone on the final notifications!!!

I was in the same situation last 2006. I only knew how to say thank you and yes-no. But fortunately, I survived. What I did is I immediately bought Japanese books and studied them for 2 days. I concentrated on the basic daily conversation because I thought that I'd just turn crazy if I try to learn the advanced level without knowing the basics. You need to learn what to say when buying things or when asking for directions.

Just focus first on situational conversations if you don't have time. I can suggest a few sites that can help you learn japanese for free. Just PM me.

waiting for post-valentine gift?

no one has posted anything since last 3 days.. guys r waiting for post-valentine gift!!!! same here... all d best to all of you.

to those who are going to osaka university, check your emails, the international student affairs division of osaka university sent us a final notification letter of acceptance.

Hey.... its already the 18th of february and still no answer I am wondering Should I start unpacking... my patience is running thin and my nervousness to heights never seen before...

Heard from a Japanese friend aware of politics : the new government in Japan has recently been changing lots of things in the organization of ministries and so on, and especially MEXT; and that includes the way our stuff is to be processed, which may explain the delay. Most of us haven't received anything yet so there's nothing to worry about, I guess.

Hi! I recently applied to a graduate program in the University of Tokyo (Todai). Fortunately, I was accepted to the program but apparently not in the scholarship I applied for (not MEXT). However, Todai was very kind to offer me MEXT Scholarship (research). I just sent them my documents which I gathered in just one week. whew!!!!

One observation is that my prospective supervisor is the one who will contact me and not the other way around. It is kinda different from what I know.

Wish me luck!

@canan: Since the Keio folks literally just found out, I wouldn't worry too much. Looks like jeanmarie's right and they're just a little behind on their paperwork.

@BuDZ: Good luck!
