I have also received good tide from my embassy.
The e-mail didn't sound very 'final', but I guess unless there is no other way, MEXT will support my studies in Japan. In my preferred University or in another one.

With the final answer only a month away, I'm getting excited.

hi all,

congrats again for those who received good news..
it seems that I am not going to my first University of choice (tsukuba). When I contacted my supervisor in toudai, he said that I am enlisted there... I am wondering if it is because of the CoA that I received from toudai..

@dalmatian: Is this a final list? As in 100% sure you'll go there? I'm dying to find out if my first (and only choice) University has accepted me.

@Scalemx: well..., the official information from the Embassy in my country is not out yet. But since there is no news from my other two Universities, I think it is the final (99% sure).
If your supervisor/University has been contacted by MEXT regarding your scholarship, I think it is where you will be going.. However, lets wait a little more for the final announcement from our Embassy.. ^^

This is definitely good news for me. (since my supervisor has been contacted)
However it might be that this is indeed not final.
Let's hope time goes by fast until we get the final confirmation.

Hello!

I just going an email from Osaka University confirming that I was going to start the school in April. Before that, i was contacted by the professor at that school letting me know he had been contacted by MEXT. In the case of the other universities I received a letter of acceptance, I haven't been contacted at all by them.

This leads me to believe that if you are enlisted in one university by now, thats probably where you are headed.

hi! when did you get that email from osaka university? i havent got any email from them but my adviser told me last month that they got the documents from MEXT.

I emailed the International Students office to ask them about dorms and they replied I was confirmed to go there.

ok thanks. can you please tell me the email address of their office? (just PM me) Im not really sure if they also handle my application because Im going to Minoh campus. But i'd better ask them too.

my friend told me that it's hard to get dorm accommodation if you apply 1 month before you arrive (because of the demand) so we'd better ask about the accommodation as early as possible even if there's still no final confirmation from our embassies.

my friend also got the mail from his professor, with the accomodation application form for him to fill in. i also a bit worry about the accommodation. but i think i will wait until te embassy confirm the university, before writing to the International Student office. I hope i got more information from embassy soon.

I didn't receive any text in the mail sent by them. I just only received the provisional acceptance letter. Probably they will send some documents regarding the acceptance soon via post.

I didn't receive any text message in the mail sent by them. I just only received the provisional acceptance letter. Probably they will send some documents regarding the provisional acceptance via post soon. They didn't ask me about confirmation and all. They just called me and told that we are sending provisional acceptance to your mail & check.
I think its happened same with you also.

I contacted the student support office of Hiroshima University asking for some information about the accommodation and whether there is anything I should do in terms of application procedures. they said:

We can understand your feeling that you would like to prepare for your enrollment as soon as possible,
but we cannot forward any procedure for your enrollment at present,
as you have not received formal announcement from Japanese government.
We would like you to wait until the final result of the MEXT scholarship comes out.

Guess there is nothing to do but wait..

Hi everybody!
I wanted to share with you some advice I got from a senpai, my friend who studied at Hiroshima uni.
I was asking about the scholarship amount, and whether she thought it would be reasonable to live on. She told me that the students at her uni on JASSO scholarships (80,000 yen/month) always seemed to have more money than they knew what to do with. I was pretty relieved!
Also she told me the first, most important thing I have to do when I arrive is get a mama-chari (granny bike).
Anybody else have any good advice to share? The time is getting near! Yay! Can't wait to hear everybody's good news.

80,000yen/month would make current scholars explode.
i wouldnt recommend a granny bike if you have to bike to school a lot.

Hi Rica,

your friend is right, 80,000yen is enough to survive a month in Japan. I was also a Jasso scholarship recipient 3 years ago. But Jasso scholars usually reside in university dorms or jasso dorms. Graduate students reside in university dorms for only 6months-1 year and after that, they have to move to private apartments (more expensive; around 40-50,000 yen). I think our monthly allowance will be enough but if you want to travel around japan or go shopping, you have to be careful not to overspend.

mama-chari. yes we need that. but if you want to save money, you can go to the nearest recyling center and obtain a recycled bicycle for free. just make sure that the bicycle is safe. oh and you need to register the bicycle even if it's second-hand.

Yeah, I'm pretty glad we're not living on that. This is the current rate for JASSO exchange students though, I wonder if they get subsidies for accommodation or something? Anyway, apparently those students still got by so I'm relieved that we get the amount we do.
scjp19 - Thanks for the info, I'm glad you think it's OK too, like you say I think budgeting is the key!

My campus is a 10 minute walk from the dorm (at least I hope so, still waiting for confirmation on living arrangements) so the bike is more for shopping and stuff. It's kind of a romantic idea though, being able to jump on a bike to get around. In my city, drivers try to KILL you on a bike! :auch:

Have you got the good news? Some of my friends who go to Waseda already received the final announcement! Nihon Uni (Coco68's choice) also announced the final status just today (or yesterday?).

I hope we got the good news soon.. *still waiting*
