MEXT Scholarship for Postgraduate 2010: General Discussions.

@arap

No, no we don't have the same Professor. However, both our Profs. are from the same department!

Congratulations to everyone as well! And fear not, this is only an unofficial/early news from our Profs. I'm sure everyone here would get their happy news in a bit. We're a lucky lot after all!

WOA!!!

I think I got lost in the past few days!! :S. Congratulations to all getting the good news!! I haven't received any notifications nor e-mails from my professor and think It's still too soon to hear news from the embassy. I've also told my professor my intentions to take the language course in previous mails, so that may be the reason he hasn't contacted me. Also, I'm going to Todai. Let's see what happens in the next two weeks . My heart has skipped a few beats reading the posts of the last three days!!

Good luck to you all!! Hope for the best but please, be ready for the worst

@SOLDIER1st

I am also going to Toudai (well.. that's the plan..). I am wondering if Toudai hasn't received any notifications yet from MEXT?

Hi everybody! congrats to all who got the notifications!!! and for the others, hang in there!!! i am sure everyone will get an answer soon!

I got this e-mail from my prof:

Dear ....,

I just got a final request from our IDEC office regarding the acceptance of your application. I have just filled in that I could accept you from next April, 2010. If you will come in April, you will become my KENKYUU-SEI (research student) and need to study intensive Japanese for 6 months first. Then, you will take an entrance exam in September 2010, and you will officially enter my graduate program from next September, 2010. I hope this arrangement will work fine with you. If you cannot come in April, please immediately tell me so. I think I can still change my reply form next Monday.

Congratulations for your KOKUHI scholarship and welcome to our IDEC program !!

I can't stop smiling since I got this

btw, I am going to be a master's student. there was a question about the scheduling of phd students vs. master's. so i think it doesn't depend on it.

good luck everyoneee =))))

This is good news, congrats to everyone who already received positive reply, I hope the rest of us will receive good information soon.

Congrats Mallika!

OMG, this is so nerve-wracking.. If that form needs to be filled up before next Monday, why no news from my professor yet...?

It may be, but I wouldn't give much thought to it. It's still quite early to get final decision. Although many of the ppl here received a reply from their professors, I'm sure the embassy will contact them to make things official and that will take a couple of weeks. What I mean is: don't get discouraged!! the same goes to all the people who haven't received any news yet.

The staff at the embassy in my country told me I would be receiving an answer by the end of december or the firsts days of january: We'll just have to be patient and avoid thinking on crazy stories about us not getting the scholarship .

I think is highly unlikely (it is still possible tough) that anyone with a LoA will get rejected. The worst thing that could happen is getting to another University. Tokyo is a very demanded location for foreign students , and as such, most of the applications submitted are for a University in the city. It's fairly logical to think that people heading for Tokyo would be the last to be notified...

Ganbatte minna!!

Relax, in fact MEXT doesn't have any deadline, apart from the February one, so there is no need to worry until next year. It is a given that Todai is going to be 'overbooked', so it is logical that it will take a while.

As Soldier1st said, being placed into a different University is a possibility you have to be aware of, but from what I heard, you will be placed into a good University by MEXT (after acceptance) in any case.

Congrats Mallika!

I think he just means that he is planning to send it on Monday. I don't think it is the deadline.

Hey, Neoxtremex, did you decide to take the language course? I ended up turning it down (I'm in for a lot of self-study >_< ) so I could get going on the research.

Hey everyone, I think I am one of the applicants who did not receive any notification yet.
I've actually sent out email to ask about the status unfortunately my prof replied as below :

Dear Pasta
I have not received any information recently. Actually I did not know about that. Maybe someone of MEXT will contact me(?).
Regards,
Prof ABC

Arrrrrrggggghh. He doesnt know about it ? I m quite panic after reading this email. Isn't he suppose to know ? or probably they will only aware whenever MEXT notify them to sign the sort of agreement?

Shouldn't being too pessimistic yet , but....

SO SCARY neh!

Now, I am also thinking what should i reply to my Prof. 'Someone of Mext will contact him?' or is he suppose to do anything??

@pasta: I think you can relax. My prof is new to this whole process, too, and he had no idea MEXT was going to contact him until they did. I don't think they're well informed of the process (just like we kinda aren't). As far as I can tell, they'll either contact you personally or your prof. Either way, you'll hear something eventually.

落ちついてね。^_^

First of all, congrats mallika !

Now, actually for Nyfa and Pasta, perhaps anything what I write right now doesn't really make ease to your mind, Soldier1st is actually the right person coz he is in the same situation as you are.

Aside from that, I just want to know few things from you guys which still yet heard any news from your Professor (I did bold yet because I believe you guys will hear it eventually)

If you don't mind can you answer this question below :
1) Did you only send your e-mail to the Professor which listed in your first choice (for applicants who actually choose more than one Uni and of course for the one who actually emailed their Professor) ?
2) Where is the location of the Uni you guys applied for ? especially the first choice
CMIIW on me with this but actually I knew Nyfa and Soldier1st was going for Toudai, Dalmatian and maybe Pasta Tsukuba, but for others ? gilmwa, coco68 ?

Right now I'm an advocate for Kanto region assumption because it is reasonable (if most applicants apply for Kanto region that is) that when we do a job, we tend to leave the hectic one for later and do the easiest one first. I assume the Kanto applicants are the hectic one ^ ^

I'm also thinking that perhaps the rest of the Professor will be contacted in this near two weeks because it's already near the end of year, near the end of year means holiday, I believe MEXT is eager to finish this matters as soon as possible as well, at least before the end of year. So most probable that we may get our embassy announcement in the first/second week of January.

FYI though indeed the news from my Professor really make me calmer, actually I still....I don't really know the right word for this maybe cautious ? I still cautious about the announcement itself, so I still think the best answer is when we hear it directly from the embassy and when the announcement is actually dubbed as official announcement.

Anyway if my questions above are not making any sense, just ignore it ^ ^

I emailed my professor to touch base this week. I received a reply pretty quickly, and he said "I look forward to seeing you in Japan soon", but there was no word on the official progress. So things are still looking positive, but I haven't been asked yet if I want to do language study or not.
I applied to Keio, so that puts me in the Kanto bunch too.
Can't wait for the official news! Feels like my life is on hold waiting. Does anyone know what dates we would be leaving? I know it is around the first week of April, but I have to let my job know in February so I wish I knew exactly when!

Yeah the dates we can/have to leave are also of my concern.
I really would like to go as soon as possible (I have enough people in Japan I can stay with), but if I remember correctly the airplane fare has to be used within a certain time frame from when you start studying. (1 week?) If this is the case, I will probably try to see if I can get an affordable one way ticket myself. If you don't rely on the airplane ticket from the scholarship, basically, you can leave as soon as the official announcement (in February) is done.
I should reread the announcement once more, lol.

@arap
1) I only email-ed my first choice, I haven't email-ed my 2nd choice yet.. but.. (continue to answer for question 2,cause it's a bit related ^^)
2) My both choices are in Kanto region also. My 2nd choice is Titech. So.. well that actually puts me into the first base again...

Well, I really hope I can get some news... *prays*

@nyfa and Rica

Thanks for answering my question,

So far the Kanto region assumption still working.

Does anyone know what dates we would be leaving? I know it is around the first week of April, but I have to let my job know in February so I wish I knew exactly when!

If you want to travel for free, I always assume that the departure date is already fixed for just one certain day instead one weeks, which is April 1st, CMIIW

Indeed, I reread the announcement it said so, but logistics wise it might be more logical that they give you some time to settle in. If you fly to Tokyo on April 1st and you have to study at say Kagoshima University, that means that you will arrive there in the evening and the next morning your course starts?

I'll try to do this myself, but if someone could inquire about this with someone who already received the scholarship, it would be quite helpful.

Yes, I do agree about the importance of settle in, even as a research student, I still think that some times to settle in is never bad.
For example, besides language course, my Professor also mentioned about pre-Doctoral course preparation and he didn't mention the detail date of the course, he just said that it will began in April, 2010. Now..the worst case scenario is that we will depart in the evening of April 1st, and arrive in the morning April 2nd, Go to the dormitory and start all of the preparatory course in the next morning April, 3rd
I'll try to do this myself, but if someone could inquire about this with someone who already received the scholarship, it would be quite helpful.
Seconded

Well for me both of my choices are from Toudai and I haven't heard a single word from them or from MEXT. I think people are right, decisions about Tokyo will be made in the end. Btw have anyone going to Keio or Waseda got any reply? Looks like we all are in the same boat.

I hate to say this and maybe make people unnecessarily worried, but...
If you read the other thread on this forum about the scholarships, I think two people from the same Kanto university got the training course or not question confirmation heads up thing.

1) I sent to the one and only Prof. because i only got one LoA (which is very dangerous..)
2) I am applying Tsukuba Univ (So I assume it's a little bit away from Tokyo so, maybe kinda late?)

Besides, does anyone know about the accommodation arrangement? Though some of us has not gotten any feedback from Prof yet. but positive thinking probably we should work for those work to be done, like entrance exam, accommodation, etc.

Ah yes.. the Keio ones if I'm not mistaken...

Because recently they posted in the other thread...I missed that

So Kanto rule's was out, which left the per-universities rule, well not necessary any reason to be discouraged, I still believe eventually all of us will have the good news...focusing in the positive thinking should do us better than the negative one.

Thanks everyone . I think for people that apply to Toudai and Tsukuba.. we're on the same boat. Let's pray that we are going to hear some news soon.

I email-ed administrative office last week from Toudai. So far there's no news. But I still believe that the lady is going to reply me, even though it's a bad or good news. For me, at least I know something is going on instead keep guessing.

And for everyone who has been notified, congrats again!!
