Hey guys, I will also be in Waseda come April. Vyen, we'll now be school mates!

I'll be leaving to University of Tsukuba in October. My graduate school would be Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering. Thanks ooilingfan.

Congratulations to everybody who has made it.

kshoo,
Ya..
Maybe we are under the supervision of the same professor as well.

Congratulations to everyone~~

woww... a new thread ^o^
GreAT job Ooilingfan
too bad i can't join you and menrui in Osaka uni though i'm really glad to be placed NIT because i have a really nice Prof there.
Well i think i'll keep the Nagoya post by myself haha.. ~is there anyone else heading to nagoya uni or NIT?
visit nagoya while you guys have spare time ok!!!

I tried to apply for kyoto, but my desired professor said that there were already too many graduate students and not enough PhD slots, so it would be best if he rejected me .

just got an email from my professor...i got into ohbaku...hmmm i'm not disappointed but not necessarily thrilled...but after seeing some pix i'm definitely leaning towards the thrilled side

Ooilingfan, thank you for starting a new thread and gathering everyone together.

A lot of people applied to Kyodai, I was surprised as well to see this. I hope we'll have a good time studying together in Kyoto.

Why am I the only one in Hokkaido U?? I will be so lonely.. then i wont be able to meet you guys and hang out together??

@c0ok1e
I wanted to go to Hokkaido too, but couldn't find a professor! Winter is my favorite season. Definitely will be visiting Hokkaido though. ^^
@abeeyo_q8
It seems that the Turtle squad HQ will be in Ohbaku!

well now i'll know someone for that daily hour bus ride we have to take to the main campus

@abeeyo_q8
You and oronen are in Ohbaku.
I'm walking to Yoshida! Hahaha! Or buying myself a bicycle! ^^

then why is the HQ supposedly in ohbaku?? oh cause i'm the supreme leader...yes yes i can see how you assumed that then lol

@abeeyo_q8
hahahhHahaHah! The supreme lider is usualy Splinter! Well Leonardo if the trurles are on a mission!
April just covers the events, occasionally been taken as a hostage by mighty Schroder!
There are cafeterias in Yoshida campus! We could gahter there! ^^

One important question:

Have you all contact your supervisor? How about those supervisors which you have obtained LoA from them, but you are not going to their labs? Any idea on how should we inform them, politely?

I remember reading in our previous thread that we should prepare around 100000 yen in cash while going over, right? I just want to confirm that, so that I can start preparing that.

>Malaysians
Please let me know the contents of the package Ms Yin are going to send to us, once you have received that. I think I will be receiving it quite late...

Good point. If anyone knows a better (or cheaper =p) place to exchange 100000yen kindly let us know. I'm not sure whether the money changers has that amount of cash. Or we can just do it over the counter at any banks. Not sure whether is it more expensive this way.

Anyway kouki, don't worry, I emailed Ms Yin and according to her the documents are still not ready, suppose they are still waiting for the final piece from Tokyo today. I'll list out the contents here once i got mine ya.

kouki, since I only have 2 LOA, i did send an email to the other prof to inform. i guess just telling him/her that you have been accepted to the other uni according to mext will be polite enough.

yes, i too think that we should prepare 100,000 yen for a head start.

hi, i'm new to this forum... jumped here from the other super-long thread congrats to all who received the monbusho scholarship!

i'll be going to keio university this april too, studying sociology. was just wondering if anyone is going straight as a phd student...? i thought i was, but my confirmation now states that i have been offered the scholarship for 2 years (phd course is 3 years). is that normal?? does that mean i have to apply for some kind of extension? i'm all confused now. haven't managed to get hold of my embassy to confirm my status... but thought maybe someone here knows or is in the same boat :S

from singapore by the way. would be grateful for some advice. thanks!

>noob

Welcome!!! I think that two years would be for research student. You will have to sit for entrance examination after that to gain a place in doctorate. So you will have to apply again for doctorate through your university. (but I heard it is a form of formality only)

>kimberleylhj
Did you mention which university you are going?

>ooilingfan
Thanks!

thanks for the quick reply kouki, but OH NO!! really?? argh...!

actually, i got my MA from keio as well (privately financed), so the embassy encouraged me to apply to keio again so i can go straight into the phd course without wasting time on the research year. i don't want to run the risk of not getting an extension... oh MEGA SIGH

anyway, i've stayed in tokyo and kyushu before for a number of years, so i guess if anyone needs to know anything about life in japan, do feel free to ask although i'm new to all this scholarship stuff...

>noob
Please confirm with your embassy... You might be exempted by your university off the period of research student... it depends

i just did... i will need to go through the entrance exam but never mind, i will just be that little bit older when i graduate! and i'm grateful enough to get the scholarship. thanks anyway!
