Hi Santos,
I was so glad that I finally found a professor willing to accept me that I didn´t solve it further ( was looking for one from December 2013 till April 2014) But I am going to fill 3 universities in the application, an employe at Japanese embassy in my country recommended me to do so.
Don´t know what is your major or field, maybe there is a chance you might have 3 different professor who can accept you and I think you can consider yourself lucky as hell then

Be sure to send them your CV, research aim and also an abstract of your diploma/bachelor thesis, it should increase the odd for getting a reply. It took me some time to find out this way.

I know how you feel - I am graduating this May, earning MSc degree in pharmacy and I am applying for Monbusho ( as a research student and later for PhD) in Sport Science field. After listing through several threads I still havenｴt founf anyone applying in medical field
 
Hello everyone! ^_^

I am applying for the a PhD Literature course this year and I have two questions that I would really appreciate an answer to!

1. I found a professor at the University of Tokyo who has agreed to be my mentor for PhD studies if I receive the MEXT scholarship. However, this is the only professor that I found that would accept me, but there are still two empty spaces left to fill out. Should I fill them out or just write this professor's name and then state underneath that I have already contacted them and they agreed to work with me.

I didn't get the scholarship last year. I wrote the names of three professors that I thought might accept me later, because people told me to pass the interview first and then look for professors. Well, they didn't give me scholarship last year. They gave it to the students that found professors beforehand. Well, now I have a professor as well but I'm wondering whether or not I should just leave the other two parts empty?

Also, please do not freak out if you are applying this year and you don't have a professor yet. This is obviously something that only seems to happen in my country.

2. They changed the months of arrival in Japan this year and I am a little confused.

They used to have three options: 1. April, 2. October, 3. April or October

But now they only have two options: 1. April, 2. If I allowed I wish to arrive in October

Last year I circled the option of going in either April or October because I don't mind when I go. But now it looks like a trick question. If I circle the second choice will I still be able to go in April if October isn't an option at Tokyo University? Or do you think I should just circle April because everyone seems to be going in April anyway.

I think it all depends on your Japanese language skill and student status ( if you apply as a research student first or you just go straight for PhD). New term starts in April, I personally would start as soon as possible. I am choosig April because if I get accepted I need to take language course first and as I said, the sooner, the better .


You can ask at embassy in your own country. I did it and they recommended me to fill them with one another school for sure. There is only one condition about this - it should be a university which didnt clearly reject you.

Wow, I hope I got this kind of advantage too since I found a professor beforehand and also prepare research plan with him

Yes I guess I will write down two other professors and Universities just in case. I thought about it some more and I think that just writing Tokyo would make it look like I am absolutely certain that I will get the scholarship. This is not true of course, it's because my research thesis is rare and not many people do it. I will write two other universities just in case! ^_^

I think that you are right and that I should choose April as well. I will probably have to take a language course too, so yes, the sooner the better.

I just find it really bad that the information given is not true for every embassy. They say that you don't need to have a professor, but they make a big deal out of it if you do. They say you don't need to know Japanese, but everyone I've ever known who has received the scholarship has known at least the beginner's level of Japanese. Ah well. All the best to us! It left only 2 weeks for the English and Japanese exam.But Until now i have not received any email or letter from embassy.Is that anyone from Malaysia have received notification from embassy?

I have a question related with the research program plan that I need to present with the other documents for the "Research student" scholarship, some know exactly what I need to present in this part. I understood that is kind of preliminary project but if it is the case. How specific I need to be?

Hello, I am in a similar situation because I want to apply for a scholarship in Exercise physiology field, I wanted to ask you what did you do with the research program plan. Did you design it with help of your professor in japan? or, did you design all the idea?

where are you applying to? I am curious cos exercise physiology is a part of my research plan since I want to study supplements and nutrition in sport and health promotion.

Well, this is a bit hard to evaluate, but I would say that the more precisely and planned you present your plan the better. It also depends on your field but I assume that examiner's aim is to evaluate your determination of studying in Japan ( mostly reasoning why it has to be in Japan) and what you want to do in Japan, if you have a clear idea.

In my case, I hade prepared draft and provisional plan before I sent it to my professor in Japan and consulted some options . So I can say that I prepred it alone and discussed some modifications. Cant guarantee the success, though, I am applying this year too.

I still haven't received any email from the embassy either. T_T.
 


Nope, not yet at the moment. Still no news about the written examination. Wondering when will they start to send the email.

Right now I haven't selected an specific university, because first I searched what universities in Japan offer some program in exercise physiology and now I am sending emails to differents universities, so I hope than someone answer me to explain my research proyect.

I want to find three universities that are interested in my proyect and in that form improve my posibilities. One of the things that I am trying to do is find universities away from tokyo.

Nope. Waiting as well. Hopefully will know next week since first week of June should be the period whereby the examination is held most probably.

I am still waiting for the notification as well. Let's just hope that the announcement will be made on next week. Which field are you from? Are you graduated or still undergraduate? Anyway, it's very nice to know you^^

Regarding the recommendation letter. Hi, everyone Ive just got my recommendation from my current university. It is sealed in an envelope with my proffesors signature. From what Ive read we are required to submit one original recommendation letter and 2 copies. Im confused because my original is sealed and if I open the envelope to make copies then the Mext office would see that it is no longer sealed. Can anyone help me out?
 
To all Malaysian applicants,

I've just received a shortlisted email for the written examination an hour ago! Anyone got the email as well? I'm from east malaysia so am not familiar with the places in KL. Anyone knows any good accommodation around the examination venue?? Thank you!

Hey guys when you were looking for advisors did you write your emails in English or Japanese? Just curious, planning to try MEXT next year.
