MEXT Scholarship 2015 (Research Students)

I agree with Kanguoft that it's not very likely that more than one university would contact us asking about accommodation. It would also go against the information I got that MEXT supposedly contact the universities in order of your preference and only contact the next in order if negotiations fail.
My current hypothesis (based on the above information but further elaborated) is that if your university #1 is a national university and they are willing to accept you, they don't contact other universities. If your #1 is a private university and is willing to accept you, they still contact the next university in your order and somehow make a decision which takes their budget in consideration. Only when a university accepts the applicant and MEXT confirm and tell the university that they are going to place the applicant there and bear the cost, the university in question will contact the applicant with further inquiries such as accommodation.

I guess it's time to contact the other professors, thank them for their cooperation and apologize for taking their time.

No, Canadian applicant, I applied to the Toronto Consulate.
Oh ! Fellow Canadian ! When did you receive your confirmation and at which uni are you going to study at ? I applied at the Consulate in Montreal and still have yet to hear anything from them or any of the universities I've applied to... I'm getting really really worried here ! :nailbiting:

Has anyone heard anything from Waseda or Keio yet ? I'm starting to freak out !!! Should I contact the Consulate or just wait wait and wait some more ?! It is really killing me ! Ahhh kami sama, onegai shimasu !!!

No news from my side either, am dead worrying on the final results.

All this info is in the last few pages...I even posted the email I received from Todai I'm actually originally from Montreal but since I attended UofT I had to apply in Toronto. I love the fact that I'm going to my second UofT haha From what I'm gathering from fellow people here, chances are you'll most likely be contacted by the university. To which uni did you apply?

Sorry i didn't check all the previous posts before asking i've applied to waseda, keio and tokyo metropolitan university. I hope i get into waseda ! I guess i can just wait and see now ! oh tu es Montréalais, chouette !

I guess no one has heard anything from those uni yet so there s still hope ! Let's not worry too much. I just wish theyll tell us soon, no time will be too much to get everything ready if i get to go to Tokyo ! Let us know as soon as you hear anything thank you!

Yea, the only thing we can do right now is patiently wait for the final results as it might take some time for it to reach the embassy. But then, the anxiety sure is killing me hardly.

Guys, I have a question. My university sent me applications forms for dormitories in the area. In the application form, students are asked to identify their status in the university. My problem is, I still have to undergo the 6-month Nihongo training before being qualified as a research student. So my question is: is my status a regular language student or a research student?

Thank you so much! And congratulations to those of us who have already received their final confirmation!

I think our status automatically recognized as research student, regardless of following intensive language course (unless you had passed the entrance examination for master and phd course, you will then recognized as regular student onward). Anyway, congratulations to you!

Hi guys, anyone applied to the University of Tokyo for the Graduate Program on Global Society that I can contact you for some question regarding this year's application?

thank u for the advice i almost bought it i thought it would be helpful since i'm still stuck on what to write in my research program plan
i think i'll do more researches

actually i have no problem with putting efforts i'll do anything to get the scholarship hahaha but as i said to the other i'm stuck with research program plan since i've never seen such a thing in my entire life so i'm really lost on what to write

Are you currently at university? Writing it is difficult yes, but I used guides that were in my university library, they have them for masters thesis and PhD proposals. Mine was about 6 pages, including bibliography and a timescale. You need to make sure you clearly state what the problem is and how you plan on tackling it within 2 years. Tell them exactly why someone needs to do the research, and make sure it's not too ambitious so that they know you can complete it within the 2 years.

ohhhh so it's like ur smh, in those 2 years, preparing and researching for the real master's thesis (for example), i'm sure i won't find anything interesting in my univ's library but i'd still look around maybe i get lucky

So if I understand correctly, the research proposal has to cover the 2 years as a "research student" even if we are intending to convert into "regular studets" after 6-12 months?

I plan to switch to regular PhD student after 6 months, so I wrote my proposal in a way that had distinct goals for both the 2-yr 'research student' phase and the full 4-yr 'regular PhD student' phase. I made it clear that although I intend to enroll in PhD, which is what the overall proposal addresses, there is a particular portion that would be accomplished if I stayed as a research student for 2 yrs and that portion is still valuable/complete by itself. Just a thought.

As far as i know, if you are join certain G30 programme, you are able to direct enroll into 4 year PhD course. Most of the courses (all regular courses and some G30 course) would still require you to enroll in 2-year master course (if you don't have one) and 3-year Phd course.

That is correct. However, none of my 3 universities are part of G30...I will have to start as research student and take the PhD entrance exam after 6 months. If I am placed at my 2nd choice (Tokyo Tech), I believe this would put me in IGP-C category, but not sure. My professor at Tokyo Tech is the coordinator for IGP in his department (ChemE), so he could explain it to me.
But hopefully I get placed at my 1st choice (Tokyo U. of Science)

I was told by the lady at the J-consulate today that the final confirmation comes on a case by case basis... not everyone will receive the final confirmation at the same time even within the same country. She also said that they will contact the candidates (at least that's how it is here in Montreal, Canada), as soon as they receive the final confirmation from MEXT. Every time I've exchanged emails with the Consulate, they have been really cautious saying "Be assured that we will communicate with you as soon as we receive the final confirmation from MEXT regarding your status as a recipient of the scholarship, and your university placement if granted the scholarship". Is everyone getting the same answer ? It's really nerve-wrecking... I feel like there is still a chance that this could go wrong. Am I reading too much into this ? Ahhhh this is going to make me crazy ! :banghead:

Received the final confirmation letter from the consulate(Malaysia) today and i was placed at my first choice. To the rest of us who are still waiting for the final confirmation, i'm sure you will get to hear your good news soon. ^_^

Greeting! I think since some of you had got your final confirmation, why not update a list at here showing the status like where you from, when and where you will be placed in Japan? Just a suggestion.
