MEXT Scholarship 2015 (Research Students)


Well, just for your information, BlueGirl is my twin sister and she did have an account here, which you now deleted and says she lost some valuable information from DMs. She's the one that introduced me to this forum. As for Sanos, I don't know if it was hers also.
 
Sorry for double post but returning to topic.
As I was writing the previous post, a question came to me.

Are siblings allowed to apply for the scholarship at the same time? Both my sister and I went to a Japanese elementary school here in our country. That's were our love for the culture was born.
 
Wow! really? most would receive emails from universities around mid December till beginning of January. Hopefully it comes that fast this year

I guess I should've clarified that my other PhD opportunities are not in Japan (which is why I already know they are offered).
If only they would announce the results this early...
I guess MEXT has already had about a month to start contacting universities for the final screening ever since announcing the results of the second screening. Maybe some notifications will start coming in to certain embassies any day now
 
Congratulations to everyone - just curious here: Has anyone ever heard of being rejected in the final stage? And if so, why? I passed the secondary screening but the wait is killing me. Any recommendations? What are you all doing?

I can only offer a speculation -- which I mentioned before on a previous post...
By passing the second screening by MEXT home office, I think we have reached the level at which MEXT believes we are worth funding for school, so they approve us (basically). What is left after this? Just one more step: contact the universities on our preference list, to confirm acceptance. This is where your choice of universities could determine whether you get rejected in the final stage (I think).

Imagine that your list includes 1st - University of Tokyo, 2nd - Keio University, 3rd Waseda University. These are all top-rank schools with thousands of applicants -- compare it to applying to Oxford, Cambridge, and Harvard. There might not be room for you because of the open positions, or maybe all your schools are private universities so they are too expensive. In this scenario, MEXT might decide that even though they approve to fund you the scholarship, they cannot award you because the universities cannot accept you (regardless of the LoA you received). This part depends on the school, not MEXT. Having at least one school you can definitely get placed at, is a smart strategy.

I think of it like going on an important business trip, which your boss agreed to pay for (MEXT second screening). However, your company cannot find any hotels in your destination city so they can't send you, even though they were willing to pay for your trip.

Hopefully this speculation makes sense, it's how I comfort myself -- as soon as they contact my professor he will tell them yes!!

Just out of curiosity, should a person is definitely granted the Scholarship when do people usually leave around end of March or end of February?

Usually for those who granted with scholarship, the period of departure to Japan is within 1st to 2nd week of april, as stated in the scholarship guidelines.
 
Hi Guys. Can I just ask, are we supposed to send a Letter of Intent to Accept the Scholarship Award after receiving the results of the second screening? Or only after the confirmation of placement in February?
 
Guys, my professor contacted me this morning that his department had obtained confirmation of my entrance to Waseda few days ago.Seems like our universtities are about to get final results, check it with your professors.Good luck to all of you.
 
The problem was I never actually acquire the email of my professor of my first choice uni (APU). Everything was done via the university administrator so I never actually contact the professor directly. I asked for the email via the admin but he simply said it was stated in the acceptance letter that he will be my supervisor but things may change when I arrive at the uni. So I'm not sure how is that going to be but for my second choice uni (Doshisha) I have contacted directly with the professor. After obtaining the confirmation does it mean that you are guaranteed to gain a place at uni?
 

Perhaps you should ask university administrator? Because usually now ( i mean when embassy announced second screening result) MEXT should had been already sent out the list to all the universities for student acceptance. This will then revert to the respective supervisor/professor and he or she will then reply so that he or she will accept the student.

Hi everyone! I'm from Dominican Republic.
Congratulations!

I'm still waiting for the final final result.

I was contacted by the embassy, and basically they told me that:
1. We are in the stage where MEXT place the official admission in one of the universities that issued LOA.
2. Do Not contact the universities who issued the LOA.
3. To confirm if I want to continue with the process,
4. The results will come in February or earlier.​

They actually did not mention nothing about me passing the second screening but from what I have read here, I think every embassy have a slightly different process.

Anyone applying to Musashino Art University?
Also What do You think is more important, focus on Japanese Grammar or Kanji?

Maybe you should enquire the respective university international student affair section. But anyway you can just wait for the them to announce as the process might vary between different universities. For my case, two weeks ago when i received second screening result, my sensei had told me that he received information from the university section whether to accept me or not, and he eventually replied with yes. Anyway, all still depend on MEXT and university allocation.


I bet Kanji and grammar are equally important. For reading, you need to understand the meaning of each kanji. For speaking, grammar is quite important as it have unique system than other language in conversation.

I not sure whether there is the difference among coutries. But I think mext research student scolarship do not comprise mathematics examination. Only English and Japanese examination prior to interview session. Japanese examination is optional but English is the must.
Maybe you could check again the sources that you read regarding research student scholarship?

I already check the information posted on 2015 applications. It said that students who apply for the social sciences and humanities R1 B (Economics, Business Admin, etc,) have to take mathematic A.

I can see that you are from Thailand, right? Yes, i checked with the guideline on the website. It seems like there is huge difference among different countries. Some of them only having Japanese and english examination, while some have other tests included. Perhaps you can ask or enquire scholars from your countries to provide the informations. By the way, good luck for your preparation =).
 
Regarding the letters sent by embassies a week ago. It may be late to ask this but Ive read the thread and observed that everyone received emails from the embassy stating that they have passed the secondary screening and asking for the confirmation. I got the email as well however, it didnt say anything about passing tje secondary stage all it asked was for my confirmation if I still want to go to Japan. Should I be worried?

Well, I don't think you should be worried...It's a good thing that they are asking for your confirmation...it means that you still have good chances to go there...this is what I think...but if you are confused you can ask them whatever you want to know

I haven't received anything from Waseda yet...
I tried to make contact with my professor before, to thank him for writing the LOA, but received no reply ><
