MEXT Scholarship 2015 (Research Students)

I cant answer that specifically tanyssg, but whenever I had questions like that, I would call the embassy, and they would usually have an answer.

Hey guys,

I got recomended by the embassy in my country. Anyone else in the same situation? Wanted to ask when does MEXT provide the final decision, around December?

The Japanese embassy websites usually say around January or February but I tend to see people who get their notification in December

Thx drewa, hope it is in December, the sooner, the better

hey guys, I have a question. it's a bit complicated here
first, I applied for a master's degree, not a research student. I'm in Business administration field.
I contacted the university and they suggested that I should take an admission exam of 2015 Spring semester now and they will provide an acceptance letter in august. but the timing is not right.

- I told them that I would like to take the admission exam of 2015 Fall after arriving in Japan while I'll be studying japanese language. is it possible?

- they said they can accept a course-based registration in advance to enrollment, so I asked them if there's any confirmation like acceptance letter for non-regular student or something like that. still waiting for reply tho.
in case that I make a course-based registration, will MEXT cover pre-course fees?

Hey Maggie,

what did you circle in the aplication form, research student or master degree student?

Generally, if people start straight with a degree course they are supposed to be sufficient in Japanese unless the course is in English .Otherwise, they take those preparatory language classes and so (if I am not mistaken)

I aplied for a research student, dont know more details about master degree. I would recommend you to discuss this matter with someone from the embassy in your country

I circled a master degree. and the course i'm planning to take is in english. (but i prefer to attend japanese language class anyway)

i guess i have to ask the personel at the embassy then.

Hi everyone, just wondering if there is some hints and tips regarding the interview. Should I say some really basic Japanese phrase like konnichiwa to the interviewers?

Since I just know few words in Japanese, I prefered to say thanks and vow at the end of the interview. I was afraid that if I start talking in Japanese they would start asking things I would not understand.

Also try to practice with someone questions like, Why your research is important to be done in Japan and Why you want to study in Japan.

Hope it helps
Good Luck

I'm currently in an institute of research under MEXT. You apply to the university since that's where you will be registered as a student. Typically you find the appropriate professor and either they will be professors at the university as well or there will be an arrangement with another professor and lab at the university to act as your lab for university purposes.

Typically you contact the professor and they'll set you up with the procedures you need to apply to the University with the intention of researching at the related institute. Other universities ask that you contact them first before talking to professors. Obviously then you contact the University first.

Hello everyone! Am new to this forum.

I was just wondering if anyone has already heard from the embassy in your country regarding the MEXT primary screening.

Thank you for your time!

Welcome to the forum! Here in Malaysia we just finished with the interview stage end of last month and is still waiting for our results. It's nerve wrecking!! (Unless everyone got it and I didn't!) Have you did your written examination?

Tell me about it!! Kept checking/refreshing my mailbox every second of the day!! Hope they're gonna email us soon. At least send an email as well even if I didn't get it. But I hope I do! Good luck to you, firearcher! Do update when you pass!

No news or notification from the embassy site yet. Have been checking my mailbox every morning but still no updates. Probably will be out within these two weeks because they'll need to send the documents to Japan on August and those who got selected will need to receive a LOA from the Japanese university to be submitted to the consulate, which will take around 1-2 weeks of process so we can expect it announce the result soon. Panicccccczzzz~~~~~~

Fingers crossed!

I still remember that one of the examiner said the chance to get this scholarship is 99% if we got our notification before august. Maybe this hints that the result will be out soon in these two weeks of time (probably next week)? HeHe.....good luck everyone.

Great! Though I have a feeling results will only be out after Raya. Let's all wait and hope for the best!

Hello everyone. I'm Ossy from Nigeria and a Monbukagakusho scholarship applicant as well. I just handed in my documents last week Tuesday (15th July). Guess I still have a long way to go as regards the exams and interview. Patiently waiting and hoping

Hi bcaapower. Yes, that's correct. Every country has a different deadline. Were you notified by email?

Yeah, by the email. And then I obtained all the documents from the application process by which were confirmed by the embassy ( they put a seal on it). Now we have time till August to get the Letter of Acceptance
