MEXT Scholarship 2012

How's everyone? Been a while since I was here, was so busy with school and work.

Anyway, how are the deadlines in your countries? Mine is 1st week of September (I love Filipino time for accepting late LOAs).

I've only gotten one LOA so far, but it's still not sent, just seen the soft copy. One letter of my name was wrong so I asked them to change it. Hope they get it fixed soon! I am waiting for the large unis to send out theirs. One I think is on summer holidays until around today or tomorrow, and the other uni I dunno what they're up to but they're not responding LOL.

Hope that by the time this is all finished we're all happy to share news regarding our LOAs! Then it will be another wait until end of Dec/Jan for the final yes.

Hi all, today i received a booklet where it is written prior to 2008 if a Mext scholar takes "leave of absence" his/her scholarship will be canceled. I also found this line in the MEXT application guide.
Again,in a different page of the same booklet it is written, for the "Departure abroad" for temporary home return one should inform it at the department office to continue getting stipend for that month.
is not "departure abroad" is kind of a "leave of absence"?? please clarify if anyone has idea of what it is trying to explain.
 
Hi Neuro, a Leave of Absence is a formal leave from school during an entire semester. Just going home for a month is not a Leave of Absence.

However, MEXT stipend is usually claimed at specific dates of the month, and if you are not in Japan for a month, then you are of course not there to claim the money for that month only.

@mitch2526, thanks a lot. now its very much clear to me. it was a vital point for my own decision to accept this scholarship.
Did every bit of my part including LOA submission. So my waiting phase has started. Thinking of taking Japanese lang course now though there is no good institute here .
I am not relying too much on this scholarship as the final result could take upto late February to be announced--- too late to consider other possible options then. So I will be busy for applying for other opportunities in next 2/3 months. Hence, hopefully waiting phase will not be too disturbing for me.
 
FINALLY. my LoA from Todai has arrived!!! My first choice!!! Waiting for Jouchi, they're supposed to send it today, maybe I'll get it next week. Good thing we don't have a fixed deadline here.

I hope Waseda sends theirs soon.

I think for most of us waiting officially starts, but I'll try to pass N1 this December and study for research. It sucks if I get to do research and then fail the entrance exams for the Master's degree. LOL

SO HAPPY right now but I can't believe how much longer we all have to wait LOL. And then the moment we find out, we'll all be like, "we're leaving so soon!"

Where else is everyone going?
 
Congrats mitch2526.... for getting your first choice LOA. My one and only LOA is also from University of Tokyo.
By the way, you are right about entrance examination. I have found their past exam questions very difficult and i understand i have to give a good amount of time and effort to pass that(if i can finally go Tokyo). Moreover it is difficult to study from past exam questions only without any specific syllabus or preparation book.

I think we should actually start preparing for that soon. I'm preparing by studying Nihongo. Or pretending to.

I don't like waiting much but I realize there is a lot we actually have to prepare for.

Do you guys know when we should take the entrance exam for the Master's program? I'm trying to count the free time we have before that. We have now until April, and then the 6-month language training, then the research proper before degree program. Hmmmm.

I have got the past exams questions in the school's website. Did you receive your LOA by post? In my post there were three things : LOA, Information Booklet by OIS and the screen shot of the website for past exam questions. If you haven't receive such thing you can mail to OIS and they will guide you where you can get past paper.
You can take entrance exam in April or October of the year. But the embassy lady here said the MEXT processing is too lengthy to be finished before april. So if accepted finally, we have to sit in the entrance exam on october with no choice left. Its good in a a sense that we will be able to prepare for entrance exam from april- october while taking our japanese language course.

you mean Nihongo.org ?? is that useful??

problem is i don find jap lang interesting. so i just like to learn the least i need. would b happy to not learn this at all...lol

Ah, you're from a different graduate school. OIS is for engg only For me I love the language so I'd be very happy to learn LOL. BTW in my country the embassy people were instructed by Tokyo to accept emailed Letters of Acceptance. Deadline here is Sept 2. So if you have received a scanned email of your LOA, then send it ASAP to your embassy people.

I still don't know anyone from the Phils. Please PM me if you're in the same boat as me!
 
My long wait will start on Wed, when I submit all 3 LOAs. So happy I got them. kouun9 what schools are you applying to?

BTW i was reading the older thread, and it seems around the first week of Dec, calls were being made to countries, but of course some were earlier than others. And then Feb 15-ish was the first time someone got called for the FINAL FINAL results.

Some people who even submitted 2 LOAs got rejected in December, and then those who got called in December, around 2 in the other thread still got rejected in February. Which means, we all should hope for the best, and keep hoping and praying.

And, it means we all should get back to our lives first, do our best in what we do, and forget we applied. LOL.

I wish ALL OF US to get good results.
 

I have applied to Hiroshima Univ, Tsukuba Univ. and Mie University. Hope we all sail through. Though keeping my fingers crossed.
 
Which universities have others chosen?? Anyone who has chosen Hiroshima Univ??

Hi yes what application process are you talking about? All of us are waiting for MEXT results. And I think in the end the tiny details vary according to graduate school, so which one are you applying to?
 
Hi, oh actually, i applied to Tokyo University as well and I was just wondering if we needed to do anything extra while waiting. Haha, maybe i'm just paranoid, lol

Hehe, I think I'm the only one who is applying for the scholarship, in order to study art. XD Most of you study some serious fields and subjects. So I worried about my chances in being accepted. But I believe in it with all my heart. Anyways, I haven't been following the dates, so, has the application period for 2012 scholarship ended? Did they announce the chosen ones? When will the 2013 scholarship application guide and the form come out?
 
I think of art as serious business too lol. So, yeah, application for 2012 has ended, but I don't know if they already announced the ones. If it's like every year, application guide and forms will come out in mid-February, early March
