MEXT Japanese Studies 2017/2018

I'm just wondering because if I don't get it I still want to do a study abroad through my university but it's hard to plan lol
 
Hi, nope, didn't heard anything. A girl from Canbodia I talked to called her embassy and they told her they would receive the results on the 14th june. In France our teacher told us we would receive the results on late june/ early July. Last year it was on the 20th june or something like that, if I remember well. Just a matter of time I guess.

P.S: I take advantage on this post to add something for the applicants who will read this thread on the next years, I thought that once you passed the written exam you had no chance to get rejected for the 1st screening, but I was told that a few mates got rejected right after their oral examination and couldn't make it until the 1st screening. The main reason seems to be they weren't able to answer to specific questions concerning their motivations/ project/ didn't look motivated enough. Just so you know.
 
Hi guys, I have just received news from Slovak embassy - I didn't get in. Two people were nominated and only one passed the second screening.
I think the reason might be low scores in my test as well as during the spoken interview.

Oh I'm sorry. Having been rejected at the same moment last year, I know that feel. I hope you're not too disappointed and that you'll get another chance to go study in Japan ! (Just so we know, do you mind if I ask you what was your JLPT level and your project ?We try to figure their screening process out...)
 
Hi Oaneyl, actually, I am in my last year of studies, so I believe this was my last chance. Anyway, as for the application process: I didn't have any JLPT certificate attached to my application. My JLPT level is somewhere between 3 and 2, I considered the intermediate part of test hard, and the advanced impossible (I guessed all the questions). My project was connected with Japanese foreign policy.

I guess that if they are choosing the candidates based on the language skills, they will give preferation to somebody with JLPT of high level attached to the application.

Thank you ! However, it seems to be a blog concerning the graduate scholarship, which is different from the one we all applied to in this thread. I guess you better post the links in the thread dedicated to the graduate scholarship so it's more useful and people of the next years aren't confused !

I've been following this forum for a while but finally going to post .

I live in Canada, and I applied to the 2017-2018 MEXT Japanese Studies scholarship.
I have passed the first screening (exam and interview), got nominated to MEXT by my embassy, and then passed the secondary screening. Now just waiting for university placement, the embassy said.

Has there been any kind of occasion (experienced or heard of?) in which after embassy nomination/passing of the secondary screening, that there was no university placement at all and the scholarship was not received?

Hi ! Congratulations ! No, didn't heard anything about that, I guess (and hope) one you passed both screening, that you're done. What was your level of Japanese when you took the tests and do you know how many people in Canada got nominated ?

The last time I took the JLPT (in 2014) I passed N2, and I had taken courses at a language school in Osaka for 2 years that should have been around N2-N1 level. I was rusty but I have been studying at an advanced level.

I do not know how many people in Canada got nominated. I'm in a smaller city, and I took the exam with 4 other people. But I wasn't sure if they were also doing the Japanese Studies scholarship or if they were there for Undergraduate Studies (they looked WAY younger than me).
 
Thank you for your answer. Actually, I remember a case where somebody were rejected after the 2nd screening, but this person didn't pick the choice saying that if none of the uni he selected accepted him, he wanted to go in another uni he didn't choose. Since he didn't pick that choice and didn't get accepted to the unis he wanted, he couldn't go after the 2nd screening but that's the only story I've heard of.
 

I did check the box that said even if I didn't get into my top three unis, that I will accept any university that I was placed at. I hope that DOES make a difference.

From all the other cases that you know of, have most people gotten accepted after passing both screenings?

No, most of people were sent to another uni, but it totally depends on the unis you chose. If you chose unis such as Keio or Todai, which are selected by a lot of people, your chances to get accepted there are lower than if you chose unis such as Osaka daigaku or ritsumeikan, which are famous for accepting almost everybody.
 
I chose Kyoto University, Osaka University and University of the Ryukus (Okinawa). In that "order", I believe.
I don't really mind where I suppose, but I wish they were more direct and just gave us all direct answers!!!
 
Hey, I got an e-mail from Polish embassy today. Sadly I didn't get the scholarship. Not that surprising for me, since we had so many people pass the written exam obviously they chose the best. Well at least I can apply again as a third year student next year! For future reference my level was around N3-N2.
 
I' m really sad that you didn't get in. Hopefully you have more luck next year.
How many people where there who passed the first screening?

The purpoae of sharing my link is to help applicants certain errors I made last year. Yes you are right, the link I shared was based from graduate studies category, but I shared it because I wanna let others learn as well from my mistakes. God bless.
 
Thanks for all the kind words everyone! I didn't expect anything in the first place so I don't feel too bad about at least experiencing both exams and the whole process. As I said some messages ago, 17 people in Poland passed the written test and took the oral one. As for how many got accepted, I have no idea, I don't really have any contact with them. I'll let you know if I get any new information.

Hey everyone, US (Chicago) applicant here! Nice to meet you all!

I have yet to hear anything after the notification that I passed the exam and interview level but knowing that applicants in other countries are starting to get their results is both exciting and terrifying. Good luck to everyone else who's still waiting! I'm sorry for those who didn't get good news. This is my first time applying for a MEXT scholarship but I did JASSO my first round of undergraduate schooling and got rejected the first time, so I definitely sympathize

There were only 3 of us taking the exam and interview at the Chicago consulate that day. I was really surprised by how few of us there were but I'm hoping that helps my chances some. I haven't taken the JLPT yet, but I'm about an N2 level and clawing my way toward N1. I requested placement at Osaka University, Nanzan University or Shizuoka University, but said I would accept placement anywhere.
