He everyone.

I found out about the MEXT Scholarship programme for undergraduates and it immediately peaked my interest. I have always wanted to go to Japan and am a firm believer in education and really do think that studying there would open educational and personal doors to great places for me.
I have a few questions and appreciate any help I can get :)

I have all of the forms and everything. I also understand that after all of the forms are sent in they select candidates from there to sit the test. The tests (for social sciences) are Math and English and Japanese.

Math and English I am find with (they are doable). However, although i really want to study in Japan, I know no Japanese!
I know the teaching is in Japanese in most to all Uni's and the programme offers one year intensive training at Japanese Language School. I said that should suffice to prepare me. But then I saw that we have to take a prelim. test for Japanese then I wonder: is it a requirement to know Japanese when applying to the scholarship. I know it holds for personal benefit but do I need to know it. I know none, ergo, iifail the test and will this failing of the Jap test hinder my chances.

And if there is any person who has already gotten the schol. out there I just wanna know if anybody who didn't speak Japanese went as Scholar student and how did they make out. Was it difficult ? After the first year of training then going to Uni, was the training not enough? Did you have difficulty in classes (taught in Japanese?) ?

I really wish I could get answers cause I am excited and nervous about this program :D

Hi, officially you have to take Japanese test and write your name on the paper, but you don't have to pass it. You only need to write your name and if you really don't know any Japanese (though there's still a month till exams so you could learn at least a bit), just leave the room. I know one person who got the scholarship with zero knowledge of Japanese
