Since women have nearly taken over wearing all things supposedly men's clothes, why shouldn't men wear skirts or kilts that are created in a masculine style?

well i agree with you but, in society, even now... women that wear mens clothes are considered dicish or whatever i mean yes some women..(like myself) can pull it off..sometimes but i mean that's just too big of a step for society to take...i don't think Ne one understands that it doesn't matter but it's all about what others think now...not wat you think...

There's a place near where I live called Utilikilts, that makes work kilts for men. I see people around town wearing them sometimes, and they're usually huge construction worker dudes who you would never make fun of for doing so, or you'd be the one to get your @$$ kicked.
I wore a sarrong (sp?) when I went to Burning Man and it was quite comfortable in the heat. I thought I looked pretty good in it too.
Wear what you like. Or don't. Whatever.

I'd say that the idea of gender neutrality still leans towards the masculine, which focuses on toning down or directing attention away from prominent features of sexual identity (breasts, legs, posterior). This might be why it is more socially acceptable nowadays for women to wear men's clothes than vice-versa, but 50 years ago it was practically unheard of.
Perhaps it's a matter of time before men can wear skirts without attracting undue attention.

I don't care what strangers think, I have only one life, if I'm not true to myself, I'm just a shadow of a man. A member of another site I go to said it quite well in my opinion. He said>>> "If I can't wear a skirt while I'm alive, I certainly can't wear one when I'm dead!!"
Personally, I am NOT gay, NOT a CD, TV, TG, or TS. I just found out how comfortable a kilt/skirt/sarong/sulu/dhoti/gho/caftan/men's kimono/(I don't think many people in Japan argue with large Sumo wrestlers in kimonos about their choice of wear) or any other MUG. M.U.G. means Male Unbifurcated Garment for those that are interested. Bifurcated means 2 legs in two tubes, Unbifurcated means 2 legs in one tube.

I think it is perfectly fine for men to wear unbifurcated garments and I don't see why anyone would have a problem with that, as long as it's a garment which covers everything up decently!
It's a matter of fashion; fashions go in cycles, and also are strongly connected with social ideas about masculinity/femininity and roles of men and women. As these things change, fashion gets the freedom to change, too.
In some countries, of course, unbifurcated garments never really went out of fashion - for instance warmer countries where men tend to wear robes. I even see quite a number of middle Eastern and north African guys wearing robes around where I live, and no one accuses them of being the least bit unmasculine (the big bushy beards are a bit of a clue...!). My (white European) cousin who is married to a Lebanese girl also sometimes wears the neck-to-floor long Arab garment (I forget the technical name >.<) for comfort/coolness in the summer. ^^

One interesting aside is the Himalayan country of Bhutan has a very interesting National Law. ALL men MUST wear the National Garb of Bhutan or face severe penalties. The National Men's Garb of Bhutan is a Dress like garment with a long sleeved top and mid calf skirted bottom. The ONLY men in Bhutan that can get away with wearing trousers are tourists from other countries. LOL

Chinese traditional wear for Men is in a robe style too, I made a thread about it in the China forum sub section.
Hmm... maybe the old fat men should start wearing the bra for men "The Manzere" to support their backs! 
It could open up a whole new line of products in the market and makes Seinfeld even richer!

Placebo, what makes you think they don't wear underwear?
Minty, lots of men wear bras already, there is a disease/condition called "Gynecomastia" which is overly large breasts in men, and that's not fat men either. In otherwise normal sized men. Look it up under Gynecomastia.org
They have a gallery of pictures there that you can see what a problem it is. It also occurs in about 35% of all boys in the pre-puberty period, but goes away when puberty starts. However, in about 5% of those boys, it stays and becomes a problem that can only be semi-fixed by surgery, semi-fixed because sometimes the surgery either leaves ghastly scars and or infections for life or the removed breasts grow right back with all the scars included.
I'm a wealth of information....LOL I guess that comes with age.

Kilts are for men, real men!.
Scottish girls just wear tartan skirts.
Skirts used to be just as much a male fashion as women, all men wearing trousers is a much more recent developement in global history.

Nuri is right - in the ancient world men wore skirts. When did they start wearing trousers?
Mrs A is right too though - women wear trousers, but they are usually trousers for women - cut for a woman's body. Most women don't wear men's clothes as such.
I think the same will happen with men wearing skirts. It will become more and more common. Remember it is only just acceptable for women to wear trousers in formal situations - most schools with uniforms don't let girl's wear trousers and many people still frown on a woman wearing trousers for a job interview.

That must be only in Japan. In the USA hardly any girls wear anything but trousers in school, even the old time Catholic schools that used to require uniforms have relented and girls wear trousers. Also, many many senior CEO's and Managers of huge corporations in America are women. And those women wear whatever they please and that's usually trousers. Condaliza Rice, the United States Secretary of State wears pants suits nearly all the time. Only wears a dress for formal occasions. Skirts and/or dresses on women in the United States are for the most part only seen on TV commercials. Not in real life.
Most women in America going to a job interview wouldn't even think of wearing anything but trousers because they actually don't OWN anything else. My girlfriend who lives with me just recently started sewing and wearing skirts because I do. The first 6 years she lived with me she never wore anything but black trousers and tennis shoes. Japan may still be somewhat "into itself" even though Japan is a world leader as well. Old habits die hard I guess.

I'm only very just gradually getting into the whole skirt thing... With the advent of a much greater range of coloured, patterned and fun tights/stockings, I'm gradually coming round to the idea of occasionally wearing a skirt.
But tights wouldn't be much fun for men, though, no matter what the colour!

"Don't knock it if you haven't tried it" Not having a group of seams coming together and slicing vertically into a mans "Maleness" is really quite a benefit.
A crotch was one of modern humans' worst inventions. Next time you're driving in a hot climate in the late afternoon with the sun right on your trousers and melting the legs inside, think of me and my same situation but cool comfy legs.

Yep....It's a proven fact of medical lore that wearing tight trousers inhibits sperm developement, helps cause problems with the prostate gland and makes it much harder to keep the "nether" regions clean. Plus the sun on your trousered legs through the windshield of an auto can feel like your legs are melting. None of this happens with a MUG..(Male Unbifurcated Garment) or kilt/skirt/sarong type garment.

I'm intrigued by your posts. I take it you've looked up the skirts of a lot of men who were wearing them??? I can't imagine how you know or assume "some" men don't wear underclothes unless you've had personal experience with men who don't. How do you do it, lay on the ground and hope a man in a skirt walks right over you? Must be lots and lots of men in skirts where you live. Or are you just "assuming" things you really have no experience in? I previously asked you how you knew they didn't. And here you are again saying some don't. So you "must" have personal experience. Hide under the grates at subway entrances?? So you saw under the skirt of a man when you were actually hiding down there looking up the skirts of all the women?? I can't imagine any other reason you'd have for being below people in skirts.

Still wearing skirts, and going to Vegas this Monday. Going to play in the World Series of Poker preliminaries. Main Event is expected to last 12 days, I'll stick with the 2 day tourneys.
