Meaning of 管理(かんり)

Hi Guys,
I would just like ti know what 管理 means in this sentence.
The context is that a new tomb in Egypt has been found and they are speculating that the person was high in society because it had murals and writing in the tomb.

この人は、神にささげるビールや食べ物などの管理をしていたようです。

My interpretation is...

It seems that person entrusted to God, offerings of such things as beer and food.

I think u r reading way too much into this. It just means manage doesn't it. If it is really entrusted, it would be 託されていた.

Is that like... He managed to offer food and beer etc... i.e because he was wealthy enough?

Umm he is looking after the food and beer. Managed to and managed mean completely different things btw.

The person managed (look after) food and beer to offer to god.
It just seems a strange thing to say.

The subject of ささげる is not the person.

Think of a priest of some sort. Perhaps people who wanted to make offerings of food and drink to the gods had to go through him to do so, or perhaps he was in charge of making sure regular offerings were made on the behalf of the Pharaoh or other important persons.

この人 is the subject of 管理する. 捧げる's subject is omitted but it is implied to be 他人、他の人 etc.
