Meaning of 時おり

Hello,
If it is possible, please, kindly, help me to find out meaning of
時おり in the following sentence:

舗装された道で、時おりくるまが通る。

Maybe it could be translated as:
The road was paved, and a car would pass by.

But I am not sure about 時おり. How to put in into the translation.

Is it related to a moment of walking on paved road, or to a moment of car passing by.

I'm pretty sure it's a typo/misread of 時おり or "sometimes/occasionally".

If possible, may I ask about ときどき。
According to dictionary it has same meaning as 時おり。
But, I wonder, maybe there is some nuance that makes that words being not exactly similar.

I believe the meaning is the same, but the register is different: 時折 is more formal/written-type language.
