Hello,

If possible please, kindly help me this translation for the following sentence:

本嫌いな子でも、民話なら喜んで読んでくれます

I could translate it as:

Even child do not like books, if it is folklore, it will be pleasure to read

But there are two difficulties. I assumed that でも is particle and it mean "even". But I am not sure it is correct.

Another difficulty is 喜んで読んでくれます。Maybe it is conjuration of
よろこぶ+よむ+くれる。 Where expression よろこぶ+よむ could mean "be pleased and read" and くれる means that it is reading aloud to the child. But I am not sure.

Thank you very much. :sorry:

Yes, でも means "even" here.

喜んで is an adverbial usage meaning "with pleasure".

~て/でくれる means "to give a favor of doing~". Thus, it shows that the speaker thinks 本を読む is a good thing.

本嫌いな is modifying 子.

If it(=the book) is folklore, even a child who does not like books reads it with pleasure.

Toritoribeさん、

Always thank you for your perfect explanations.
I guess that reading folk tale afterword will be even harder then tale itself.
It is one of my first attempts to read text with Kanji. I am sorry for so many simple questions.

Thank you very much :sorry:
