You are right in a way. Daiji is a set of kanji used in legal and financial documents to prevent forgeries. In essence, numbers. Ichi nee san shi go Roku shichi hachi kyu ju…I wondered about that too , LOL I took a leap of faith and figured he meant Kanji .

If you take the time to look at old posts on Japanese here , there is probably enough info to fill 10 text books on Japanese. I think over the years , every question a person learning Japanese has , has been covered here. Finding sites where you can listen to Japanese being spoken is a good idea to get pronunciation right. I bet being in California , you can find a Japanese teacher to help you for not to much money. Sometimes you can find night school classes that don't cost much. For me , I found if I couldn't use my Japanese almost everyday , my ability faded away. It might be worth checking if you have any Japanese school classmates who could help you also.
