For guitar fans out there, this is a must see! It's pretty funny. I was highly entertained when I watched it, anyway. And there are some sick licks going on in there. And the girl who co-hosts it is hot. Anyway, enough of my rambling.

Yeah, Marty's Japanese is pretty friggin' good, too. It's certainly a lot better than Paul's.

I had no idea that Marty was such a huge KISS fan. He really put it to Paul there. Actually, I was surprised at some of the bands that they liked, like The Ramones. They aren't my favorite, but whatever. Those two guys shred, though. I haven't heard much of Paul, but Marty's in my top five favorite guitarists.

Actually, my son and daughter had been watching Hebi-meta-san. (They've probably seen that episode.)
Too bad it ended just a couple of months ago...

The two guitarists come to Japan very, very often. My son saw Paul Gilbert at a special workshop the other day. He spoke in English with an interpreter.

Marty was seen hanging around in Shibuya, with an assistant carrying his guitar...

I have a two-part episode from "Tamori Club" with Marty as special guest. It's really funny and also you can see the extent of Marty's Japanese fluency there. I wish there is a way to send you that video!!

Oh, wow! Maybe I'll have to hang around Shibuya. I had heard about seven years ago when I was at Berklee that Marty was studying Japanese. She said that she wrote to him asking for an autograph or something, some sort of fan mail, and he wrote back to her in Japanese. She said it was pretty good. That was before I had even thought about learning the language. I hear Marty's been living in Japan for quite a while now.

It is a shame that the show isn't on the air anymore, and I wish you could send me that video, too. I must say, though, I never would have thought you to make an appearance in this thread, epigene. Are you a fan of the metal? :bikkuri:

All the information I have comes from my kids. I never liked metal, but I was a Yes and Emerson, Lake & Palmer fan in my days!

I've even been to a Dream Theater concert in Shibuya with my daughter!! (I thought I was going deaf... )

My son is a metal rocker (he also went to Berklee because he wanted to be like Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert & Petrucci (forgot his first name)). He currently is a music teacher but wants to be a pro musician.

Daugher is a rock vocalist. My personal opinion is that she wants to be something like Alanis Morrissette.

My husband and I want them to at least try what they want to be--something we both couldn't do because we grew up in the tough postwar years....

Ah, I see. I think Dream Theater is the reason lots of people go to Berklee.

Man, who knew I had so much in common with your family? Haha, this is pretty interesting!

Steve Vai's another one in my top five. Petrucci's first name is John, by the way. That's pretty crazy that you've been to a Dream Theater concert. My youngest brother likes them, too. He's a fan of Mike Portnoy. My brother's actually a pretty good drummer in his own right, and he was thinking about going to Berklee after doing general education stuff at home. He still has to graduate from high school first, though.

That's great that you and your husband want to give your kids the opportunity to do what they want to do. I'm glad I was given the opportunity, too (just wish I hadn't screwed it up...). I hope things work out for them!

Nice link there Glenn ! I play the blues and easy-listening and a little rock, but no heavy stuff. I do listen from time to time,and my eldest son just eats it up. . . he can't wash dishes after dinner (his chore) unless he drags his laptop along, and cranks it up with a bunch of stuff he's downloaded.

Yes....ELP....wow, those were the days....good memories....

YEAH! Journey rocks! They're the kings of the power ballad. In fact, did they have a song that wasn't one? lol

I like some Styx, too. There are a bunch of the older bands that I like.

I like Journey, too! My son's also a fan.

ELO came back to attention in Japan last year with their song selected as theme for the popular TV series "Densha-otoko." My son didn't know ELO until then...

Styx, I know a couple of songs... My knowledge of 80's bands and popular music (in Japan and US) is weak... I had my hands full with babies...

Sometimes his music can get a bit intellectual for me if I OD on it, but still........... ^__^

Yeah, he certainly can get out there, a little too much for me too. But he has some stuff that's just brilliant.
