I had a question regarding long-distance relationships in Japan. For context, I am a 22 Male that studied abroad in Japan. While I was there, I developed feelings for a student at the university I studied abroad at. We actually confessed our feelings one day before my flight to the United States. While I was back in the states, we called everyday and she officially asked me out on January 1st and I agreed to do long distance with her. She also came to visit me at my university for three weeks in the United States around March.
After she went back home, she started her full time job in April and I can tell she was very busy with training and on the job training. She's been growing super distant, texting me back once per 1-2 days and we would even go through periods where we wouldn't call for 2 weeks. I tried bringing it up to her, but she always emphasizes that she is a full-time worker and wants to focus on that and that I am a student. And that it's a bit childlish to expect on the dot text message considering how busy she is. I tried understanding her perspective more, as I know Japanese have a very work-centered life style and that it's important to them. She's on a Work 5 day schedule, then one day off. I would expect her to reach out to call on her days off, but she's busy hanging out with her friends. A recent example is that on her day off, she was drinking at a dart bar with another man and woman. Usually, I don't care about her hanging out, but I'm really bothered by her lack of effort (EX: not updating our shared calendar, never initiating calls). When we do call and I bring it up, she gets upset, saying it stresses her out and that I'm making her feel guilty. Is this a cultural difference? Why does it feel as if she legit lost feelings? I always ask her if she ever thought of breaking up, if she's ever bored, and she just says no. After one of our discussions, I agreed to be more independent, but I asked her if she was still committed to this relationship. I don't want a relationship where we put each other on pause, see each other and reignite some passion, and put it on pause again. But she was affirmative in that she was committed to our relationship. I thought this was really important, as I am currently applying to medical school and we might have to do long distance for a while (but plan on visiting her within a year maximum). It seems that she does want this relationship to keep going? Another thing that bothered me is that she refuses to post about me on her social media, but at the same time, follows all of my American friends. There was one time for her birthday, I posted on my story a photo of us and wished her a happy birthday. Her friend did one as well, but she only reposted her friends ... I didn't know how to feel about that. What should I do in this situation?
Are there any ways I can bring this up to her (like some Japanese phrases or ways where I can address the issue?)
