Kyoto is a by any measure a fantastic city to visit. This said, visiting Kyoto has become a nightmare at least if you keep on visiting the temples available on guide books. Now if you are interesting to visit a very nice temple and be the "only" gaijin around, go and check Yoshimine-Dera!

Very beautiful, one more on the to-do list!

I remember a couple of years ago we cycled to Ohara, just north of Kyoto and were surprised to have a few most outstanding temples to ourselves, one of them the Sanzenin. There certainly are a few pristine spots in and around Kyoto left.

I remember a couple of years ago we cycled to Ohara, just north of Kyoto and were surprised to have a few most outstanding temples to ourselves, one of them the Sanzenin. There certainly are a few pristine spots in and around Kyoto left.

Ohara is really further north, but indeed there are a lot of amazing temples that have yet been "touched" by foreign tours.
