Hi, I don't know if you guys have seen these "I'm a PC, I'm a Mac" Commercials but they're hilarious. Im going to be chatting with a friend from Japan in a couple of hours and I was wondering if a fluent speaker would be nice enough to translate the commercial from English to Japanese for me ?!?

Here are the videos

All I need is "Network" translated !!!

THANX A BUNCH !!!!! 😌

Here it is in English:

Mac: Hello, I'm a Mac.
PC: And, I'm a PC. We've got a little network going here. And uh, it was very easy to set up.
Mac: We speak each other's Language.
PC: We share internet connection. There are all sorts of things we do toge ..ther ... who ... now ... who's this now ... what's ... I [Digital Camera walks in]
Mac: Oh, this is that new digital camera from Japan; just came out. Hajime Mashite ?
Cam: Hajime Mashite ?!
Mac: Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu !
PC: Wai-wai-wait, you speak her language ?
Mac: Oh yeah, absolutely. Everything just kinda works with a Mac.
PC: Ah.
Mac: Ahhhh, Arigatou. [Cam hands Mac picture]
Cam: Ne ne ne, dare na no ? Otakuppokunai (Thank's Glenn)
PC: Bonjourno ? Hello ?

No, she says otakuppokunai? "Isn't he nerdy?"

Also, ne ne ne, dare na no?

Those commercials are the sum total of how ignorant the mac community is of how pc's actually work. I can't recall the last time, (it has had to have been at least ten years ago), where I was unable to get a device to work with my pc due to driver problems, easily solved really--- or when I wasn't able to run a certain bit of software I needed in order to be productive.

Apple is by and large, or at least its advertising department, one of the most mean-spirited, lying, imature group of people ever to conjecture that at any point in time for whatever reason Apple simply trumps the pc, BECAUSE WE SAY SO.

You probably don't recall or have heard the oft claimed fact that the older PowerPC based macs were faster than pcs in such in such tests... At one time Apple claimed to have the FASTEST desktop pc... neither of these things were true, regardless of the fact that Apple was trying someway to compare, excuse the pun, Apples to Oranges. It's not just even that they were going about testing the wrong way, its just that it was never true--- Apple never has a problem with lying when it comes to making their product look good.

This is my contention with these ads, from Slate:

The final straw, for me, is that the spots make unconvincing claims. The one titled "Network" has a funny bit where "that new digital camera from Japan" is represented by a Japanese woman in a minidress. While Hodgman has trouble talking with the woman, Long speaks Japanese and shares giggles with her because "everything just kind of works with a Mac." Now, I happen to have a digital camera from Japan, and it works just fine with my PC. It did from the moment I connected it. Similarly, the spot titled "Out of the Box" (again, a very funny visual metaphor, with Hodgman and Long crouching in cardboard boxes) suggests that new PCs require tons of attention and alteration when you first fire them up. But I bought a new ThinkPad notebook just a few months ago, and it ran on all cylinders pretty much straight out of the gate. Why insult my intelligence by telling me something that I know isn't true?

They're well designed advertisements, if not for the fact of being more than a little obnoxious if you know the facts. But who is Apple advertising to? The mac-geeks who already believe what Apple tells them, the frustrated pc user who's too stupid to know that what Apple is saying is basically a lie? Either or, it's pretty insulting.

Again from slate (see link above), I think this is an exellent sumation of Apple's ad strategy:

As usual, Apple hopes to shift the debate away from a battle over specs and value and toward a battle we can all understand: cool kid versus nerd. But these days, aren't nerds like John Hodgman the new cool kids? And isn't smug superiority (no matter how affable and casually dressed) a bit off-putting as a brand strategy?

Everytime I've had the misfortune of having to use a Mac it left me frustrated with its inability to just function normally.

Oh and yes, that stupid one-button mouse IS a big deal.

I remember at college once yet again I was having to use the Macs I was cursed with every day, yet again having troubles getting the computer to just comply (sometimes it didnt even want to open the software I wanted it to).

That particular day the class had enough and a good chunk of us asked to use some spare PC's across the computer lab, and by god, it was like being delivered from hell, everying did what it was meant to, we totaly rocketed through the excercises and course work and oh my god, I was never happier to get on a PC then that day.

I'm sure the Mac propaganda department would say I'm too stupid to use a Mac or something elitist like that, I know how to use a Mac, its just when the Mac feels like being used, its as tempremental and self-willed and has a mind of its own, the problem is, one expects and needs a computer to comply.

Its like having a light-bulb that works at its own accord rather then when you want it on.

My take on it.

Oh, and are you still needing the rest translated...? I don't know, I'll just ad this because it accomplishes that, while editorializing a bit...

hajimemashite (恥めまして)
Litterally, this means, [I meet you] for the first time. But it's often enough mis-translated to how are you? [1] Meeting my girlfriend's brother--- hajimemashite is a little bit awkward still... when being introduced to someone, 'doumo' is a pretty good all around word--- still this fits this fictional encounter.

yoroshiku o-negai shimasu (よろしくお願いします)
Litterally, this phrase means "I ask you to treat me favourably/I ask your favourable consideration" [1] however, in this ad it's a bit awkward since its more or less used in its mis-translated form of "pleased to meet you"...

Yoroshiku o-negai shimasu is more or less a formal introduction by one person to another group of people, or for example, by a bride to the parents of the groom to be, etcetera... Someone from whom you are litterally seeking good favour. It's a very difficult phrase to translate in a simple and direct manor, and there are many different usages that fall outside of the simple 'greeting'.

I can see maybe why they wanted to flex their Japanese and not sound repetitive, but you wouldn't really use Yoroshiku o-negai shimasu this way.

A PC can do everything a Mac can, except it costs less and you'll not look hip and cool while using it. =P

lol damn, y'all got into the speculation a little too hardcore there. I do have a PC, not a Mac. PCs are good for all the techy stuff and Macs are good for fun and the look. I just like the commercials, that's all.

Anyways, back on topic lol ...I just need that one "Network" Commercial translated from English to Japanese ^^^ so I can show my friend from Japan. (Shouldn't be too hard, right ?) If she doesn't understand it in English, then I have something to point her to. Really appreciate it, thanx. =)

Ummm... hajimemashite is 初めまして, not 恥めまして

I've had times when the latter seemed more appropriate....

Don't tell me you haven't.

Here's my full translation of the commercial...there might be some mistakes, but bear with me:

Didn't want to use the similes 'cause I know you can't see them. I hope this isn't as offensive to you.

Oops, that was a typo... as I had the word & kanji right in front of me, though (and I don't like to admit it), my eyes must be getting bad as the characters can seem somewhat teeny for me on the laptop monitor.
私の恥ですね!

I just realised now that the goal was to translate the ad in its entirety from English to Japanese... how did I miss that. Someone owes doinkies a coke for translation work that normally people would have to pay for!
