Kanye West aka Tetsuo? It's Akira!

Alot of you must have seen the MV of Kanye West's single 'Stronger'. I only saw/heard it today. First was surprised at the Daft Punk sample, then at Daft Punk themselves as cameos. Then the biggest surprise of all. The MV was somekind of live-action mini 'Akira' re-enactment with Kanye himself playing Tetsuo. Was amazed!

So what do you guys think? Shockingly shameless heresy? Or a well-meaning tribute to Akira?

Well, a majority of people that would watch this video probably have never seen Akira, so it will probably go right over their head while viewing it. It's a shame really since Akira is a classic that everyone should see at least once. But I don't have a problem with anyone that gets anime out there so more people can become aware of it, even if that was their intention or not.
 
Yeah true, thats a good point. It probably wasn't his intention to "get it out there" but I do think it was meant to be a tribute or something. Many have blasted him for it but I think it's great that he did it

Despite the lyrics, which I don't really care for, I quite like the song itself - interesting re-working of the original classic. I'm not convinced that it is Daft Punk in those suits - it's a long way to fly for a cameo when they could have just posted the masks to the US (unless they happened to be there anyway!!)

I think its hilarious, myself. Kanye West makes a tribute to two of the oldest legends of music and animation.

Easy there, Clawn san! I'm the same age as Daft Punk, and i prefer not to think of myself as the equivalent age of the 'oldest legends of music'...

Surely, Madonna is far more ancient (three or four generations?!)?
 
My apologies, made of stone san. :sorry: What I had meant to say was one of the legends of modern techno. I do believe that Daft Punk is one of the oldest creators of modern techno. And I must agree that Madonna is far older.

Lol, I'm glad to hear it was a slip of the fingers Clawn san! After I posted, I started to think about the some of the real legends of music...the Beethovens and the Mozarts...and worried you might be trying to compare me to composers who would be hundreds of years old now!!

Hehe, now I see exactly what you meant! You are so right that Daft Punk are legends of modern techno, they have been very great innovators, too! But they are not the oldest creators of techno (that process started, arguably, 20 years before!) But I'm very glad to find more electronic music lovers here at Jref - perhaps we could start a new thread about All Things Techno - that would be fascinating!!

I am an ex-Kansai Boy, so I would love him if he sang for the Tigers How about this one:
