Just some thoughts

I just checked the website of my alma mater, Berklee College of Music, and what did I see? Bill Cosby was the commencement speaker! Amazing! I should have waited another two years to graduate.

One thing that I couldn't help but thinking as I looked through some of the pictures and names on the website was that I didn't recognize any of them. Maybe it's not that big of a deal, but I have, in the past, seen people whom I knew on the website. It just made me think that I'm getting old if I'm so far removed from college. Granted, it's only two years, and it's really not that bad, but the thought did occur to me. It kind of scared me, actually. Anyway, just wanted to say some stuff. I'm not sure anyone really cares, but whatever.

Well, Glenn, I kind of know where you're coming from, except I didn't graduate from college. I went a couple of years and dropped out(I would've graduated in 1998)... ☝ ...so I'm really feeling removed. I've been really down lately because I feel I'm getting too old to go back to college. I feel that by the time I complete my 4 years or so, I will be too old to start doing anything. Everyone says I'm still young enough to do pretty much anything I want, and there is no question that I could be a much better student now, but I feel it's just too late...*sigh*

Never too late KNM. You'll have to get your life set up for the effort as it will take a lot of time, but in my graduating class, we had a lady who was 63!

It's never too late, Kirei! I started studying with 30, now I'm 35 & still not finished.

I wonder, which job I will end up with being that old, but studying is worth the effort.

Funny to listen to you young'uns whining. In 10 years you'll realize how young you were 10 years ago. Enjoy your youth (or current age) NOW.

Yeah, I guess you're right, mdchachi. Trust me, I'm not quite at a mid-life crisis in either age or mental state, but I am noticing that things are changing around me, and it's a bit scary, you know? I guess part of the deal is that I still think of myself as being a college student, even though I'm not anymore, and realizing that all I'm doing is being removed from that situation is forcing me to grow up a bit more, and that's a scary thing, too. So it's not necessarily that I'm bummed about getting old, per se, but that I'm not going to be able to live like I have been for the past few years anymore. It doesn't help that I'm not a big fan of change, either.

Believe me, I understand. But since you can't avoid it, you may as well try to embrace it.

You can get an online law degree from 清華. The laws in China are pretty shaky, but just get an idea. After that, you can apply jobs from many multi-international consultant firms. e.g. Ernst and Young. China's accounting / trading system is a mess. There is a high demand for foreign professionals to train, manage, organize ... too many to mention.

Indeed, a degree just helps you to set your foot in the field you want. People skill is more important. Just keep an open mind. Personally, I won't go back because I can't stand their public bathrooms. But you are a guy, so it should be better for you. At least you don't need to sit on those filthy toilet pots.

After the Cultural Revolution, there are a lot of Chinese people have become compulsive liars - they are just not capable of telling the truth. If they are not Chinese, I will turn a blind eye to it. But they are Chinese! I can't bear to deal with them.

Note: Actually, a person like you don't even need a law degree. Just need an opportunity.

Many managers in the U.S. and Canadian big consultant firms were history or some other weird majors in universities. After all, leadership and analyzing skill are more difficult to obtain and therefore more valuable.

Unlike the IT field, in the legal and business (except advertising) fields where life experience counts, it's THE OLDER THE BETTER.
