Hi, I visited Japan during the world cup and noticed the street vendors were selling corn on the cob from mobile catering units, can anyone give me a web address or a contyact wher i can finde out more about these units....Strange i Know
Mmmm! Corn!!! I dont know much, mostly these are just small vendors and what not and they usually sell a number of things depending on the season. We have one where I live that sells corn in the autum, strawberries in summer and yams and chestnuts/chestnit cakes in the winter. I think its sort of the equivalent of the hot dog stand for westerners. Yummy no? It certainly makes me look foreword to the change of the seasons though! The japanese have such a wonderfull appriciation of food and whats in season at the time.
Welcome to the forum John, and greetings from the heart of Japan, Nagano. those little stands are usually around during festivals, are kind of a closed group, in some ways, and may be hard to get net info on. It may be of good help to give us more info on just what it is you are looking to find out, and then some may be able to check later, and let you know. I have sold roasted corn on the cob, brushed with sweetened soysauce in the past for a neighborhood booth at a festival in Matsumoto. It was a Shinto shrine festival, we ordered the corn from a co-op connection, provided our own grill and stuff, used the tent and set up which the shrine rents from a purveyor of sorts, and did it. That's it. The excess money above costs, went to the shrine, of course, but that also kind of helps the neighborhood--or at least so we are told. (That was some 19 years ago)
