「栄冠は君に輝く(The crown shines on you)」
Background of formulation
With the revision of the school system in 1948, the previous "National High School Baseball Championship" was renamed to "National High School Baseball Championship", and this year's tournament is the first tournament. Since it was the 30th anniversary of the tournament, the organizer, Asahi Shimbun, solicited applications for lyrics from all over the country as a new tournament song. Kaga's lyrics were selected as the best work out of a total of 5,252 entries.
Initially, the lyricist was Michiko Takahashi (Michiko Nakamura after marriage, the niece of Yasumi Matsue), but this was Kaga, a professional lyricist who was writing in Ishikawa (the real name at that time. Yoshio Nakamura) dislikes the idea that people around him are looking for a prize (the grand prize was 50,000 yen, which was more than 10 times the average salary of civil servants at that time), and he turned his name down to the name of his fiancée. It was because he applied for it at the 50th Anniversary Tournament (1968), and Kaga himself talked about the truth of the lyrics and changed it to "Kaga Daisuke lyrics" [2]. At that time, his real name was changed from Yoshio Nakamura to "Daisuke Kaga," which was one of his pen names.
Kaga was a baseball player, but he had to amputate his right leg due to osteomyelitis caused by an injury during the game, and he gave up baseball. This lyrics strongly expresses Kaga's passion for baseball.
The founding singer (original at the time of the announcement) was Hisao Ito, a famous singer at the time. By the way, Ito is a friend of Yuji Koseki, the composer of this song, who has a close relationship with him since before the war, and has been active as a famous tag in popular songs, military songs, and wartime songs since before the war. (The two masterpieces are "Iyomante no Yoru", "Pray for Akatsuki", etc.).
