Japanese Govn't Giving Foreign Students a Break?

I just found this article on "Keyhole", a website recently introduced to us by Janet Maria san!

Thinking of heading to Japan on a student visa? Well here's a bit of good news. The Japanese goverment wants to not only ease screening procedures for students wishing to study in Japan, but also extend the time you are able to stay.

Asahi reported that Justice Minister Eisuke Mori released the information on Friday. Currently, there are around 123,800 foreign students studying in Japan. The governent wants that number to be near 300,000 by 2020.

Damn! desperation's gotten to THAT point! They even want foreigners in their high schools?!??!

Japan is a country know for being pushy around with foreigners and now they are being nice. Even with Chinese! (Chinese are no longer requiered a Visa to enter Japan). This should be an indication that the economy is sunk and they are doing pretty much anything to get people into the country to get it flowing?

How are you guys looking at this?

Internationalization of the education system has been a goal of the government since before the bubble burst. There are a number of factors at play: the need to increase English education, the need to boost competition by getting more top rate students and faculty, the need for fresh ideas, etc. The university system just needs new air and MEXT knows it.
