Japanese-Foreigner relationships formed while on a trip, how do you keep it going?

I know that some Japanese go to the states or wherever they go and they sometimes get into relationships with foreigners. What do they usually do after they or the girl goes back to her/his country? Do people in these kind of relationships try to continue the relationship even from long distance or do they just give up on it. And if they continue say an American guy..., does he feel obligated to move to Japan or to somehow bring the girl into the USA for good?


i just been wondering because sometimes i see foreign japanese students(women) in the USA...who have gotten into relationships with American men or Foreigners studying English in the USA( classmates). unless they travel alot...i don't see how they can keep it going

This depends on the relationship. This is not particular to Japanese females on exchange in the United States, I guess this prettu much applies everywhere else in the world.

This is really personal and it depends, they probably just want a relationship for when they are on exchange to keep them company in their trip. For the most part, they know that a long-distance relationship is not very likely to succeed, so from the very beginning they know that they are most likely to never see each other again, or they probably keep contact with each other for some time when the student goes back to his/her respective country and then it just keeps fading away. I see it more like the boyfriend-girlfriend sweetheart relationships that happen in middle school that only last a couple months and then move on. Or a better yet example is when teens go to summer camp and they meet their mates and they seem inseparable but then all of a sudden they go home and as time goes by, they just forget about it.

Good question.
Most of the friends I end up making are foreign international students.. and ALOT of them, do seem to get into relationships with the intention of making it last even though they know long distance is hard. It seems most people stay together where they meet and when one of them returns home they try to keep in touch though phone and mail or skype and try to visit eachother when they can, with the hopes of one day settling together in either of their countries.

Doesn't always work...but I know alot of people, including myself, in that situation who seem to be making it work and are committed. It depends how much you want to be with the other person, no? People who just want a half-a-year-fling, well, they just want that. Love is like that anywhere... I think most people don't have the intention to fall for someone that will be in a difficult situation, but it sure happens. =)

Hey. I met my gf while she was studying english in my city and i lived with her for 3 years, been dating for 4 years. At the moment shes in Japan so recently ive been suffering a long distance relationship which takes a lot of trust and love i guess. But if either one thought that we wouldnt eventually live together again then we'd just call it off. I dont feel like i need to move to Japan at all (now or future), although i wouldnt have a problem with it. In fact if i was willing to move to London we'd still be in the same country but i refused. In the end the ultimate ideal and reality is that one of us will have to give up our country or each other. At the moment it seems too difficult to do but we just take each day at a time, communite often and keep busy. From my personal experiences (well friends) it fails more often then not but in my case so far its not that bad. Someone i know had a long distance for 5 years one was in the US the other in new zealand and they have been married for close to 10 years now.

Yeah, well, most times these relationships fail, so much I see they just fade away, that when my mom told me about a guy that plans to bring a Korean girlfriend to live to Mexico, I was utterly shocked.

Haha sorry to shame us all but im not really a united fan although ive been to more united games then any other and i do have a soft spot for them. But yeah your probably right im a Manchester man through and through and when i went to London i hated it. Other then Japan I'd never leave Manchester.
