Japanese Food

I do not know if this question has been asked before, and I have no time to look through the forum, so I'm going to ask it anyway

Are there any sorts of Japanese food one has to try? I consider buying a book about making bento's, but I would like to know if there is other food I really should try first.

Skipping some already mentioned foods:

Sukiyaki, Croquette, Zenzai, Green tea ice cream, Cream pan and other breads/pastries, and Diafuku. There is of course many other things you should try too but these are some of the highlights.

I love sushi, wasabi, Japanese ice cream (it's very good but it's also expensive in my country).

A bento isn't any particular sort of food; anything at all can be a bento.

Even a single grain of rice is sometimes referred to as a bento: お弁当をつけてどこへ行く？....if it is stuck on the face of a careless eater.

Buy a book anyway. As mentioned, you can put anything in one, so get some background info directly from the source.

Japan can eat each local special product in "EKI-Ben(駅弁)".
