Those are really cool. Some of those cans of coffee are very strong, though. I liked iced oolong tea in a big can.

If you can find a Nestle canned drink vending machine (they're not common), you may find Kit-Kat candy packaged inside a can.

yeah i saw that on the Gakoentoshi station in kobe yeah.. i thought it was a drink or some.. strange to have 1 kitkat in a can, in a drink machine hahaha.....

well maybe they should put up a snack machine with chocolate, and cookies... mmm mabye i should make a call to the company for that, maybe they give me a 2% of the profit..

:LOL::LOL:

i think it's just so typical of the way Japanese culture has evolved to have everything available in a vending machine :D
you can get toothbrushes and stuff from them too 😆

it just makes life SO much easier for those travelin buisness men, i can imagin... like those *cough* 'hotles' with the pod like bed *cough* 'rooms*

.... and i uess it makes sence to take that and mke it apeal to younger audiences (you know what us ids are like... we'll buy anything :giggle:)

Actually, you can find vending machines containing chips, cookies, and other snacks. The problem is that they're almost always located in a company break room or cafeteria. You won't find them on the streets very often.

I think this may be related to concerns over vandalism and theft. The snack machines usually have a glass front and if you smash it you can remove the entire contents of the machine. Drink machines require much more effort.

yeah... i see you point..

(when you say chips - d'you mean crisps? 'cause we get them over here too... but again only in closed off areas - sports halls, schools, ect.)

you don't really get vending machines out on the strees any where tho... so... i gues if Japan [o]does[/i] have them... they'd be in the dence areas of the citys right?

Yes, I would imagine that Mike means "crisps" in the British vernacular.

However you do see the other kind in vending machines. I was in Rusutsu Resort (big Disneyesque hotel, theme park etc. in Hokkaido) for a short break with my fiancee a couple of weeks ago and saw a vending machine selling fried chicken and fries, plus a range of other hot meals. Quite how it worked (stores food cold and heats on demand / keeps it warm and dishes it out when required) I don't know, and didn't really care to find out. I would imagine it heats on demand, since the hygiene issues of keeping chicken warm for days on end would be pretty serious, leave alone what it would do to the taste.

Actually, you'd be wrong to assume you only get vending machines on city streets. You can drive for half an hour through the mountains and barely see house, and then suddenly by the side of the road, will be a couple of vending machines dishing out ice-cold drinks. Quite how they power some of them I've never quite figured out.

There's an experimental (Coca-Cola) vending machine sitting in one of the subway stations I walk through daily. You use your cell phone to pay for the drink.

ah, yeah ^.^

LMAO! omigod... ok, one, EW! and two... what? :D:D
that's.... yeah, that's being just a little drastic i think 😌
but *sigh* you whent to Hokkaido? i'd love to go there for... even just a weekend... it sounds so beautiful... i plan on living there at some point... (ofcause that'll never happen, but hey, a girl can dream can't she? :D) there and Kyoto are where i wanna go most... i'm going to Kyoto tho...:?

.....O.O
:giggle: well... i guess.. it' nice for people who've been out running for like... a bijillion hours.... nice cool drink when there's no cafe's or bars around.... :?

....with..... you're mobile?
*stares blankly* um... lol, ok then 😌

AH! *smacks head*
DUH! vending machines - why's there so many of them? why're they useful?
- because you don't have to pay people to work the cash register....

Even harder to figure out, sometimes you can be out in the sticks and suddenly come upon a small area with a dozen or more vending machines all lined up.

.............. ☝ ....................

wel... i guess people must use them... otherwise they wouldn'd be able to aford to keep them there....

Yes, but beyond a certain point the machines cannibalize sales from each other. And people in a remote location and thirsty aren't nearly as choosy about what they drink. In other words, they could probably maintain the same level of sales with fewer machines, and thus less operating cost.

Quite true! We took a bus trip to Koriyama and it is predominently a farming community. We'd be driving through fields and come across some vending machines in the middle of nowhere (like a row of 2001 monoliths).

I searched on Google and found those pictures of various kinds of vending machines:

We also have cup ramen vending machines with hot water, at, like, universities, swimming pools and bowling stadiums.
They are pretty popular with young people.

Hmmm, let me think what else we have here...
Yeah, we have an ice cream vending machine (besides the rental shoes vending machine) in the bowling stadium in my city and it's quite popular.
At the public swimming pool in my town, we have a hot pizza and hamburger vending machine.
You choose what you want and it microwaves automatically and searves a real HOT one in like 3 or 4 minutes.
Those kids who get starved to death from swimming usually rush on it and eat, then they feel satisfied and go home.
Oh! and I've heard this!
Some rooms in love hotels here have a comdom and dildo vending machine.... sugoi!
