Japan Photos 2021

I let a patients wife drive us to the doctors office once. There was a new roundabout in town about 15 feet in diameter and only 6 inches high , covered in flowers. The woman drove straight over it and scared the crap out of me. I called my office to report it and they informed me she was not allowed to drive (a little late to tell me). She was using 3 doctors to get pain killers and was usually high as a kite. I could write a book about this woman and her husband , my patient , LOL.
 
One shot of yesterday's marathon here, I think I read that there were more than 10,000 runners. Beautiful conditions for it. The other--my wife had some sewing stuff out on the table, and this was part of it.

Dinner, and then also the prep stage. Wife uses the board and rolling pin to squeeze the meat out of the legs, then arranges it on top. The season just opened. We got these from her brother in law, who works at some kind of public-private fishing organization. Two apiece--luxury!

These guys live along the Arakawa. People feed them every day and they turn tame and fat.

 
Waaayy off in the distance is the snowy Tateyama range, visible from here only on clear days in the fall. Some of it to the right of the large building, it continues on and more kind of right of center.

80km distant, give or take.

 
Just an imperial century! Now, with days getting shorter, I also stick to the rivers.

By the way, what river is that? Saigawa?

Saigawa is my one and only ride these days, tho last week I did some repeats of the 'good' part. No hills/climbs on the river path..!

Perhaps I'm boxing myself in unnecessarily, but I don't feel like challenging traffic and regular roads, just get down to the river and back, taking it easy and being cautious. One worry is that I probably don't have another crash in me--and riding and being out there is such a fantastic gift, even if I don't go all that far/hard. I don't want to lose what I value so highly.

I keep visiting these guys every Sunday. Their numbers are multiplying week by week, and some people get close, too close. I'm worried that someone might be bitten sooner or later, and "pest control" will get involved to exterminate the colony. I hope they keep their distance.
 
Wild tanuki? Once they get a taste of human blood...!

I saw one close to home a few weeks back that had been injured, and it was limping while proceeding at the pace of a brisk human walk. It seemed completely unfazed by me following about five metres behind.

We encounter them a lot in our area, too, especially when walking the dogs at night. Tanuki are usually shy. Our dogs always turn berserk and chase them away. On the Arakawa, people feed the tanuki regularly, and they turn up in ever greater numbers. It's a veritable menagerie, with cats mingling in and competing for food.
