I am closer to you than when I was in the Aomori prefecture. However I am still far away.

僕はあなたに青森県より近いけど、まだ遠いね。
Would this be correct?

Here's my guess: あなたと一緒に青森県にいた時よりあなたに近いのに、まだまだ遠いよ。 I'm not quite sure how that works, though. It probably isn't the most natural way to say it, either.

but you used あなた twice. is that still acceptable?

also just to clear up the meaning a bit..
I am in Aomori, she is in Osaka. This is a long long way.
I'm going to Tokyo soon, so i will be closer to her, butTokyo and Osaka is still a long distance away.

The reason that I used あなた twice was because of what I just said, and it seemed to be used differently in the second part of the first phrase, so I thought it needed to be said again.

Regardless how many times I've seen it and know it's OK, somehow the idea of adjectives like 'chikai' kedo here to mean closer or more of still seems lazy or immature language. Whatever reads like 'Although I'm close, I'm still far' I have to literally restrain myself from reaching in with motto chikai/chikaku or chikaku naru or something to make it more sensical.
