Is a bachelor party common?

I don't believe it is that big in Japan, never heard of a couple throwing separate parties before they get married.
How about in your culture? Did you or would you have a huge bachelor party?

In the US though, I know a guy who called a stripper for his brother or have heard that some men would try to sleep with as many as women possible while he is still single right before their wedding.
Women also try to enjoy their last moments of being single with their female friends by going to clubs and bars or call male dancers.

I am not sure how true it is, but it seems a little crazy to me, makes me wonder if people feel guilty afterwords.

What do you think?

Seems like all American weddings include bachelor parties, to varying degrees of wildness. I threw one for my friend when he got married because I was the best man, but it was pretty tame. My friend went to a bachelor party that got pretty crazy, but I've never been to one like that. One of my coworkers has been gone recently because he was at an weekend-long bachelor party. I've heard of guys renting vans and going to Canada for the weekend. I used to work at a comedy club and bachelorette partyies often came in. And for some reason, they were always carrying a large inflatable penis and drinking from penis straws. Strange.

In the movie "Sideways", which made me want to post this thread, they go to the wineries, meet women and the guy who is getting married ends up crying for his fiancee after sleeping with other women. I thought it was funny but not funny if his fiancee finds out what he's done.
Well, it is just a movie afterall.

I wonder if bachelor parties are popular in other cultures, or is it an American thing?

Typically, bachelor parties are just a stripper or two, lots of beer, and stories about how it was so much wilder than it really was. My fiance's brother in law, for example, played Street Fighter while he got drunk, and that was about it. He looked like **** the next day, though, lol.

Most couples don't feel guilty about just strippers or drinking. My fiance was joking around about having a stripper when it comes time for his party, and was shocked when I said okay. Personally, I see a big difference between strippers and prostitutes, and a bachelor party is a "special occasion" after all. If he were to start going to strip clubs monthly/weekly/nightly/whatever, on the other hand, there'd be some problems.

I think you are very open-minded and generous. Your fiance is a lucky guy.

I'm not sure if I would have liked my husband having a stripper for his party although like you said, it's a special occasion.

No, only groups of girls came into the club to have their bachelorette (not bachelor) parties. Girls sometimes have crazy parties too, but probably not quite as crazy.

Brooker beat me to it, (again, cripes! ) but I think he said most of what needs to be said about Americans. (At least from my experience.)

This year a Japanese friend of mine was getting married and I offered to throw him a party.... Heh, it didn't happen. Actually, I'm not even sure where I'd find a stripper around where I live. There are "working" girls around Wakayama but... uh... ummmm......

"Working girl"- Just more slang for prostitution. And just in case you think of asking, no, I don't know any real prostitutes. Except for Minnie, the one eyed hooker on the South Side of Chicago.

Those are mainly comedy films. Most (sane) people just celebrate the marriage with their friends along with whiskey and steak and just celebrate

Has the culture of bachelor parties died? If it has, that too would warrant a fresh post.
