Pizza is dead easy to home make, the main cost in Japan is the cheese, which is for some reason stupidly expensive.

Pizza dough is a snap to make. I normally make enough for 2 large pizzas -
1 cup warm water
2 Tb yeast
2 T honey (optional)
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 tsp. salt

Put the water in a bowl and mix in the honey and salt, then the yeast, mix and let it sit for 5mins. Add a cup of the flour and the oil, mix it in until blended then add the rest of the flour. It should ball up but if its too dry, add a tablespood of warm water. Too wet, a bit of flour.

Then sit it in a dry warm place (by a window) for 45mins, knead (read: beat it) it down for a few minutes and sit for 90mins. Knead again and you have your base. I normally halve it and make 2 pizzas.

As for the rest all you need is a sauce base, maybe a pasta sauce or tomato sauce if you're desperate. Add whatever, cheese, meat, vegges, etc etc. Cook in a preheated oven on a high temperature, 220+. Keep an eye on it and take it out when you think its done, around 10-15mins normally.

Cut, eat, serve with preferred drink
Should cost you bugger all to make compared to the shops!

What ingredients do you get for that price? I checked the Dutch Pizzahut website and prices here vary from EUR 9.65 (Margherita) up to EUR 15.70 (Super supreme) for a medium pizza. But I don't know if these prices are for a 'normal' pizza or for a panpizza.

When I was in Japan, I never really liked the pizza that I had over there, so after a while, I started to experiment making my own pizza. Over the years, my taste for pizza has changed, and I really don't like anything greasy. Now my favorite is one with a whole wheat crust with a sauce that I make from fresh tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, herbs, and HOT peppers. The toppings vary, but are usually a combination of veggies like onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and sometimes bits of brocoli, with perhaps some chicken sauteed in olive oil, garlic, and herbs, and, of course, anchovies. For cheese, I prefer a bit of grated parmesan. Meat and cheese pizza lovers will not be beating my door down for a sample, but my wife and I enjoy it.

You used to be able to get a 6 inch, thin topping at First Kitchen for around 100 yen....although they were discontinued a year or two ago, at least in Tokyo. Now everything pretty much is delivery, even for customers that try walking in. ☝

If you're dying for cheap pizza, there's all-you-can-eat pizzas at Shakey's (lunch hours during weekends, I think). I've never eaten their pizza, but my kids say theirs are OK.

If you're paying 2500 yen for a M-size pizza or 3500 for L-size, go for Pizza-la! They have the best delivery pizza.

Most of the time, however, I bake my own or splurge at a good Italian restaurant.

PS: I found that Shakey's lunch buffet is available in only the stores listed here. My kids went to the Seijogakuen and Kichijoji stores:

I love Shakey's! I didn't know they had them in Tokyo, though. The only one I knew about is in Kyoto , at the end of teramachi, near the Keihan Sanjo station.

I also use whole wheat when I make pizza, it gives it more taste :3 I don't make the dough entirely from whole wheat flour, though. And of course add garlic to the tomato sauce... and basil amont other things. I love basil and organo ^^ Here some people don't want oregano on their pizza but that's just nonsense - you always have to have oregano

Miu -- by all means, oregano is a must!!! A couple of other things that I like to do in making the pizza is to form the dough on a baking sheet sprinkled with corn meal. The corn meal enables a bit of air to circulate under the crust and helps to give it a nice crunchy texture. Sometimes I like to lightly saute onions and green peppers in olive oil with a bit of thyme and basil before putting them on the pizza. Pizza is a fun thing to make.

Actually the first pizza was more of a roll that was made by the italians and the pizza that we eat allover the world is the american spin on it. Im pretty sure americanized pizza is more popular than the first italian version.

Well, there's two options. One, they mean okonomiyaki, which is really nothing like pizza, except that you get to choose some of the ingredients. I hate that translation. It's a savory pancake kind of thing. Two, they mean the kind of pizza served in Japan, which most commonly involves nasty rubbery cheese, mayonnaise, squid, and/or corn. (Pop quiz: what's the most common pizza topping in the world besides tomato sauce and cheese? Answer: Corn. No kidding.)
