I like Asia as you do, Hong Kong, Japan and ofcourse our country Philipphines.

I can't do anything without that diploma but I'll get started ASAP.
I'm going to try finishing the ones that doesn't require a diploma.

But first, I'm going to get some sleep.

Since it appears that you understand the situation and are willing to go ahead, all I have to say is "good luck to you."

Only know that it is easier said than done and there will be the visa issue that might block your way after your student or pre-college visa expires. Just be sure to make a lot of friends, especially Japanese. You'll never know who will turn out to aid you in times of need.

🙂

I'll keep that in mind, I'll also see if I can ask some of my relatives there and their friends for visa problems that I might also encounter aside from studying.

I'll also try to make a lot of friends, it's going to be lonely without them.

Thank you for your advice.

2.) I can't get sent there 100%.
-Even if I know a little Nihongo (My foreign language in college), they can send me to Nigeria, Russia or New Zealand. (I'm serious, and no, I don't know what they're smoking).

Hey don't sweat it too much if you get sent to New Zealand - you can always drop by for a cold beer and a barbecue.

what has happened twith your situation GrimRoach? I've been living and studying in Japan for a year now and have some advice that might be of help. I don't feel like spilling out the beans so soon since you might have already made your decision, but if you are still looking for advice, tell me.

The only thing I will say for now is this: I dreamt of coming to japan for several years. When I first came I felt so overwhelmed by the many differences between my not so third world country (Mexico) and Japan. I've learned a lot through my interaction with my international community (40+ countries, 100+ people) and the japanese community at my university. Before coming I was so sure I came here to stay and wanted to live and retire in Japan. Now I'm not so sure.

I wont deny it, it is true. Japan as a country is GREAT, no doubt about it. The air is clean, its secure, calm and its easy to live here. But there is one thing that will not make me want to stay here too much. That is japanese culture. I know I said Japan is great, but japanese people, as a society have many traits that i consider less than agreeable. It's hard to define it without going ahead and writing lots of examples, so I will just put it as simple as this: The way the japanese behave and act in their real life is totally different from what you may have experienced as a tourist, their laws and traditions will make no sense to you sometimes, sometimes you might think of them as ridiculous or laughable, but sometimes they will come and bite you in the arse.

If i had the choice, I would never choose to turn japanese 100%. I like that my japanese is good to communicate naturally among them, but there are many traits that are not just what I am at the core, so I will never take them as my own, no matter how japanese I would seem by doing so.

By the way, I dont hate the japanese people, they are cool sometimes and I respect them as human beings. I do like mexicans more though.

Be proud of your country, even if you dont wanna live there.

Finally, no matter what, I would recommend you to come here and study japanese. I'm sure it will be of the greatest experiences you can have. It is possible to make it with just some arubaito, but I would recommend getting some sort of scholarship, there are some REALLY GOOD ONES, like MEXT and some others that will help you live more easily. Just remember this, dont worry if you change your mind when you come, it happens. Give yourself some time, you might love japan again, or you might leave and never come back. Just dont fixate in the idea of staying forever.

To me, coming to japan is a stage of my life, I dont know how much I will stay here, 5 years, 10 maybe. Perhaps even more. I hope that you would consider your case similarly. Coming to japan is a first step, succeeding or failing here will only teach you about life (and failing will always teach you the most, even if it hurts). Once you have actually lived here for a while, you will be in a proper condition to decide if you want to stay.

Dont put all your eggs in one basket and dont burn your bridges. You might want to do something else with your life.

Best of luck!

Oh my God, I'm very sorry. I completely forgot to check this thread. I thought people just ignored it. I'll just send you a private message if that's alright.

As for my situation, it annoys me but I can't really do anything right now but gather information, my problem is that I CAN'T get any leads or sites where I can find the information that I need.

*EDIT*

I heard New Zealand's awesome.

I'm having problems with the PM thing so I'll just post my reply here in a new message. I'm not sure if jbsongaku got my PM.

I'm still waiting for my diploma and yes please, I'll need all the advice I can get.

The info I still don't have and need are the following:

1.) Prize and more info of vocational schools in Japan.

Even though I come from a prestigious school in the Philippines, I don't know if that's enough, somehow I get the feeling that it isn't but I want to confirm if my current education is enough to find employment, if not then I'll need to further my education from language schools to vocational schools.

2.) How can I tell if schools are legitimate (recognized by the government) and not just some school that's out to rob people of their money? Does the Ministry of Education have an online list of legitimate schools in English?

3.) Who to coordinate with first when going to study? The school or the embassy? Anything I should know?
I don't want to call the embassy and have them say-

"Call the school first."

And after calling the school like instructed:

"Call the embassy please"

That happens to me a lot. In fact it happens to me so much it's not even funny. I can hardly get anything done.

And as for the cultural differences, I don't know for sure right now, but I'm the type who mainly keeps to himself, the country only bothers me because a lot of things affect me either directly or indirectly.
I have a lot of friends here and 80% of them are leaving in one way or another mainly due to financial reasons.

Their reason (Financial) is similar to mine, except that if I'm going to try to earn a lot of cash from a country where I won't breathe smoke, can walk when there's no more sun without getting stabbed, and sleep well because it's quiet at night, I might as well appreciate those things.

jbsongaku, I'm not sure if you got my PM but I just want to know that I really appreciate your help.

The Embassy does not matter, call the school.

except that if I'm going to try to earn a lot of cash from a country where I won't breathe smoke, can walk when there's no more sun without getting stabbed, and sleep well because it's quiet at night, I might as well appreciate those things.

Well... ignoring that at the current exchange rates Japanese wages are not so great, you can see the air pollution in the color of the sky and its noisy 24/7.

You won't get stabbed. Probably.

Oh, so I'll just contact the school and get instructions from them.
That sounds simple enough. Thanks.

And is it noisy now?
A couple of years ago, it was really quiet at night.

And I hope I don't get stabbed. I heard it doesn't really hurt... at first. You know, when your adrenaline is still pumping, they say it'll be numb, you won't feel a thing and then next thing you know, you'll faint.

I mean, I don't know, I never got stabbed before.
And people who get stabbed here normally gets another 20-30 more stabs from their assailants and then die before anybody could ask them how it feels to get stabbed.

Tomodachi, why are you talking so bad about our country?? is manila so worse???

please buy a ticket of 50p and visit Bacolod your mind will be different, really!!! There are much japanese people and there is no much crime only (pr*stitu*es) but that's something else 😌

but really you should have go a check to it, do you think im saying this just because to promote Bacolod?? no i'm tellign this because my mother who lived her entire life in bacolod saids its way more different then in the rest of the philippines, there is much work, its the healthiest city of Philippines and the people are more japanese then filipino and you always have money and work in Bacolod.

Like i told you im going this july & august to see for musician(because im a guitarist or maybe for actor but then i wanna do my debute in japan) if you want i can show you the better and safer and healthier side of our country, i allways say it's my country even im 50% japanese:p please tomodachi reconsider to visit for 1 day Bacolod.

It's normal that it isn't safe at night but yeah in wich other country does the sun goes down allready at 18.00h:? and stabbed if you are never been stabbed why mentioning it?? oke i have to tell you also this in a street in bacolod there lives yakuza, and those guys you really don't wanna meet (0.0)

and please stop saying how miserable manila is, we all get allready the picture 😌

and i think jbsongaku is right about it, japan doesn't allways seems to be like in the movies, its a total different image, but still it is always good and fun to explore somethign at your own 👍

especially the ganguro/harajuku girls😊

Sorry for the late reply, my DSL's acting up again, it kicks me off the net and it did so like 10 times this week and I have to wait a few minutes... even hours to get back on.
When I call the costumer service, nobody seems to answer the phone and when I call the main line, the operator's angry. Why is she angry?

Anyway, as for my reply:

Dude, I'm sorry but I'm going to have to be frank with you but can you stop asking me to go to Bacolod? Let's just agree that we have different opinions regarding our country, okay?

I just need some information about studying in Japan.

That's all but since some people ask why I want to go to Japan, I tell them that I want to earn money there and stay there in an indefinite amount of time, plus, I liked it there when I took a vacation, asked around about the life of people there who had jobs and I don't like it here for several reasons that I've stated before.

The safety, cleanliness and all the other things are just icing to the cake. Like I said, I've been there and I liked it, my main reason for going there isn't because the high school girls wear miniskirts and anime.

I rarely watch anime and Japanese movies, I only watch the ones that are really good to begin with... and I don't know any Japanese movies.

I know Japan has its ups and downs, my life there like I said is gonna be hard, it'll be full of disappointments and misery, I'm not expecting heaven when I get there, I don't have the money to live in luxury and I won't be taking a vacation when I get there, I'll be studying and like all other foreign students, I'll have a hard time. And I want to learn from that.

But I still want to go and change my life. jbsongaku's advice is really good once I get there, I'll see what I'll want to do but first, I have to get there and to do that, I'll need all the information I can get.

It's true that I don't like this country but it's a common misunderstanding that I worship Japan, I don't. I just wanna see if I can get a much better future in a first world country, if I fail, fine - it's not like my credentials will get burned and I'll lose everything, I'll still have what I learned there.

well okay you are right, i will stop about my hometown!

i reconsider today everything and maybe i wanna go also to japan but for actorschool, because i don't think i will not be experienced enough when im done in philippines.

and if you have any good news, kuya then let me know maybe i join you to japan:p

Strange, after sending a private message, it doesn't get logged on my sent message list.

Does that mean I was unable to send my message?
I don't want to flood the person I'm trying to reach.

I can see my old sent private messages but the new ones simply won't register.
