Dear native English speakers,
would the sentence above sound right?
Or should I say this?
I've found that few American people try to learn foreign languages.
I had to do a double-take, because I didn't notice any difference at first. They're almost identical in meaning and which one you use is largely down to personal preference.
"I find that" is present tense and is similar to "It seems to me that"
"I've found that" is past tense and is similar to "It's obvious to me that"
While both say practically the same thing, the present tense version is more polite.
