whilst in Japanese IME how to type "... ..." (ellipsis) when the full stop key is "。"?

surely there is a way to type . in romaji input method. Maybe a native Japanese may know, because . in on kana input method.

You could use "・・・", which is essentially an ellipsis just at mid-line height. For me it's the "/" key while using the IME.

See the difference above. You can see that the left one is a symbol, not three symbols. Type さんてん and then hit space key, since this symbol is called 三点リーダ. (三点リーダ is usually displayed at mid-line height, as Angel Valis-san pointed out, but it's at the bottom-line now probaly due to the font this forum is using.) I usually type it by "・(/)" "・" "・" --> "space" on my 109 keyboard, though.

I just added it to my IME dictionary as さんてん. In my phone it works with 。。。+space

さんてん indeed works, but isn't Japanese ellipsis six dots? ろくてん won't give ... ...

What you do is write things in Hiragana mode on your IME and then use the F6-F9 keys. Go " 。 。 。" and then I think F7 or F8 turn them into Roman letters (the other is Katakana or something, not sure) Just play around with them a bit, the F keys will save you a lot of pain of switching all the time. F5 also seems to be some sort of radical lookup feature, though I haven't done anything with that yet.

Edit: what the other people are saying about santen is obviously the correct thing to do, it seems. I'll leave this post here anyway because I think the F-key thing is a good tip.
